Baldwin, 49, and Basinger, 53, met on the set of a movie in 1991 and were married in 1993. In 2001, they filed for divorce in a blizzard of vicious accusations. The divorce was granted a year later. She has accused him of beating her. He has accused her of being an alcoholic. As Lauer observed after listening to the tape, Baldwin “can’t even say her name,” calling her “the mother” on the recording.

“It’s the nastiest divorce I’ve ever seen,” said Levin. “It’s been going on for years. There has been such hatred and bitterness in this family. Kim Basinger believes that she has been the victim in this, that he has an explosive, volcanic temper. He believes that she’s denying him the right to parent Ireland, and it has just been endless.”

Damn, why'd they bother hooking up in the first place?

I'm going to get reamed for saying this but what if the 11-12 year old girl is a brat. Especially in Hollywood. If she's that stereotypical child of two Star parents then she's probably been very frustrating to raise.

But, I don't know them personally so I really can't say.

I can handle "brat".

It's when they're snorting blow that kind of gets on my nerves.

i see what you mean. but i don't know why would a father say that about his own daughter? a child at that who is obviously being used as a pawn. i just dont see it.

Have you ever not been able to contact your child? He's probably had to deal with this for a few years now, and lost it. I don't hate him for that, I've seen the frustration first hand.

Treating your child like that speaks volumes about you as a person. I don't give a fuck how far another adult may have pushed me, it would not have a bearing on whether I behave like a brainless asshole toward my children, calling them names and blaming them for my issues.

Exactly. There's no excuse for speaking to another adult that way, let alone a child, let alone your OWN child.

What is WRONG with people?

I sometimes think that celebrities can get away with anything and are untouchable because they are who they are. Kayne West said in a song the following which I think is very true for some celebrities...

But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem. The prettiest people do the ugliest things ~ Kayne West "All Falls Down."

I think he probably shouldn't have called her a pig but I've heard parents called their kids worse things when they've gotten on their last nerve. What I heard in the message he left was... despite what's happening between he and her mother, he is still her father and he's not going to allow or let his 11year old daughter disrespect him...as any parent would do. and personally, I ain't mad at him for putting his child in check at to who the parent is and who's the child.

That's what I'm saying - Baldwin's kid got off easy. Whenever I f-d up, my dad would call me "dumbass" & "retarded". Now which is worse?

Evidently, I'm not the only one who disagrees. Are you trying to tell me that you've never lost your temper, and that y'all are just the most perfect parents? I asked you whether you had ever been deliberately alienated from your child's life? If not, then you can't understand the level of frustration.

I can understand being frustrated, and losing your temper, sure. But you don't lose your cool like that with a child. You just don't do it.
Frankly, I don't tolerate people who would treat me that way. And my expectations on how children should be treated are much, much higher than for myself.

Exactly, in my circle of family and friends, what he said wouldn't even raise an eyebrow…if anything, the child would be getting calls from one or two people asking her, if she’s lost her mind in not answering her daddy’s calls and she had better have a damn good answer.... I remember hearing words like "wench" and "heifer" from my mother, father and all the other adults.

some weeks ago in the school where I work I've seen a 10 years old boy insulting and kicking his mother, I wanted to slap him the face and force him to ask his mother to forgive him but I had no rights to do so.

Don't even get me started on when I did stupid shit, AND then they'd have to call and tell everybody so I'd end up hearing about and get cussed out all over again for stuff I did months later, she got off easy.

I'm not sure that the use of pig is considered as defamitory in the Baldwin clan. I recently viewed an episode of Family Guy featuring Alec Baldwin breast-feeding all of his brothers at once ( ergo, as do those of the swine family ).

"That's right, drink up guys. Especially you Stephen. You're the weakest."

the scariest thing about that message is that he is going on and on about himself and his feelings without seemingly to give any thought to the feelings of his daughter. Why can't he just leave a message and have her call him back? Then he can talk to her about his frustration.

Basically, the impression that he is giving this child is that he is a scary angry man who she must cater to or else be abused.

And yes, speaking to your child in such a way IS abuse. There's a huge difference between "losing your cool" and that message he left for her.

absolutely, and like she was an adult and he had been manipulated & used by her, when if anything she's been damaged by her parents.

It honestly sounded laughable except that it seemed to be real.
