Yoga just kicked my ass.

Does anyone else here do it on a regular basis?

It was my first time ever and I seriously thought I was gonna die while doing it.

Please tell me it gets easier. How long will the feeling of my limbs being ripped off my body while I am doing it last?

I hurt and I have the shakes now. sad

It does get easier nod
..I used to do it on a regular basis. I can stop for a while and start again with no problem..which is bad because I know that.

OK, seriously. The FIRST position I did...it felt like I dislocated my shoulder.

I am really, really, REALLY out of shape.

I'm trying to not get discouraged about this. confused

Keep going for it- push past the pain and discomfort as long as you do not injure yourself.
I found that in the last class I took- every one has different levels of flexibility. Our instructor was great- she would give ppl alternatives to some of the positions to help them get to the final stage slowly.

Keep going- you can do it!!!!

I want to start Yoga so bad but I don't want to do gay naked yoga. I'd never actually do the class lol

Well, I am not gonna give up yet. I was actually surprised that I was able (sorta) to do about 85% of it.

I'll try again tomorrow.

I was just wondering if the discomfort is normal at the beginning.

Totally!
When I first started I really had no idea it would be sooooo difficult. I broke a sweat within about 15 minutes. It does get easier. And when you see improvement it's quite fun. smile

I'm out of my regular routine... I hope to start back soon.

aww I hear you, but it will improve.. you are prolly using muscles that havent been used or stretched in such a way for a long time.. in time you will become really nimble and flexible

I did yoga for a while and really enjoyed it.. I found it incredibly relaxing.. have you thought about doing some pilates?

I just started yoga too, and I looove it. You won't be able to stretch exactly like the instructors at first, so don't force it. If you end up injuring yourself, or making yourself so sore that you get discouraged, you'll just end up quitting. Go easy at first.

I think what kept me going back to yoga was how good I felt AFTER the class. It's hard, hard work during, but after, man, I always feel so good.

Oh my god I love you!!! You may have given me the answer to something I've been trying to figure out for three years now!! I just looked up SPD. My doctor has given up trying to figure out why I've got such pain in my groin and hip. You're my new best friends I think!!

And I would also love to do yoga. I heard that Courtney Love lost a lot of weight doing it. (maybe) hmm

Great.....it will be worth it.

I have practiced Iyengar yoga for over 15 years....

I guess the important thing for a beginner to remember is yoga is not a sport - you are competing with no one, not even yourself.

Just because the person next to you can easily get into a pose and stay that way, does not mean you will be able to and vice versa.....all our bodies are different and have different strengths and weaknesses.

Take your time with it, allow your body to ease into the postures instead of forcing it to do something it is not ready to do. Eventually you will get there. Play close attention to alignment, and that should keep any pain from occuring. If you are experiencing pain (especially in your lower back), tell your instructor immediately.

Good luck and I hope to hear very soon how well you are doing!

i've always felt it has something to do with breathing...since starting yoga i only need five hours of sleep...i get up at four or five and i still have energy for my day...its wierd.

Oooh, I need to get back into it, I miss it. I just found out that my school has FREE yoga classes for students! I had no idea. cloud9

Anyway, yes, it's brutal in the beginning, but you start to see and feel changes faster than with most sorts of exercise. It's great.
