If I ever get a dog, it'll be a bulldog. What about those? They're not too big.

They're one of the few breeds that just tugs at my heart. Everyone thinks they're ugly though. lol

wrong pic. edit falloff

I love their faces! Personality plus--it's like they're saying "yeah, i'm ugly, but i'm awesome!!!"

I have rescued 2 dogs- one was about 11 wks - a pure bred Australian Cattle dog from a local shelter then a 3 yr old (approx.) pure bred Australian Cattle dog from ACD Rescue. Both the best dogs I ever had. mushy

Look for a breed rescue in your area and see what they have available.

What's the story on these australian Cattle dogs? Are they hyper? They are very cool looking dogs. They also appear to be very intelligent. I've never had to opportunity to interact with one. Even though they are a bigger dog, I would consider getting one if it were the right temperment.

I told you in the orgnote that I would post a pic- here's one. The only one I had saved in my computer of both of them together.

Kasey & Tanner mushy

Nice looking dogs! Thanks for posting some pics. I've never seen any that color. Especially a solid color. Most of the ones I've seen have been multicolors.

Pit Bull. Sweet, extremely loyal and independent.

I agree, except that I wouldn't call them small. Some of them are pretty short, but they're HEAVY.

They often lean towards the hyper end of the spectrum.

Yes they have red & Blue heelers. I was going to get a blue one (which blues always have some red- red is dominant) before Kasey came along but she was sweet and needed a good home- I could not resist. mushy
Like I said in my orgnote- they need a job- space to run and they are in the herding group- so they will herd things.

So do they play with each other a lot for exercise or do they still need other things to do. What is seems funny to me is that the breed looks so stocky. It doesn't look like they get much exercise. And of course I'm talking about all ACD, not just yours. So are they just inquisative dogs or do they have to have a large space to run. So you couldn't get a jack russel and a ACD and let their energy levels cancel each other out.

They do play with each other. Tanner used to always herd the miniature schnauzer- they played well together.
They are NOT apartment dogs.

I'm looking for a small breed, that isn't too hyper ( like a jack russel). I also don't want a yappy dog that barks a lot. I'm looking for something that is smart and independent and doesn't shed hair everywhere. Any ideas? Does anybody have any small breed dog that they can recommend?

I'm telling you...get a poodle! They are the only dog that really doesn't shed. And the temperment depends on how you raise them. Smart and easy to train. Plus if you have any friends with allergies they have fur instead of hair like all other dogs.

We have one in an apartment but someone is almost always with her and she has us trained to her ways. Meggy and I both love to take long walks and she gets tons of outdoor exercize. She gets along well with big dogs but little ones make her nervous.
This is our ACD, Steller

She was young in that picture, has a lot more blue on her now.
