oh man, did you guys see Rome yesterday night??
Indeed. What I noticed . . . - From the show's perspective, drug use caused the rise of the empire. Antony's will was "out the frame," and you KNOW he was zooted when he wrote it. But it gave Octavian all he needed to war on Antony, who would have bled him to death otherwise. - Atia is truly cursed. - Livia is every bit as conniving as she is portrayed in I, Claudius. I knew he was going to be pissed at her ass even though he had fallen "so-called" in love with her after a few years. He threw her nasty ass in the swamp. Exactly what she deserved.
And Antony has gone nuts. You mean to tell me that Cleopatra's pussy is that mind controlling? I think he's still in love with Atia too, caught up right now. And Octavian was having a fuck fest wasn't he? All that frustration built up i guess. [Edited 3/19/07 19:49pm] LOL Octavian is an ANIMAL!! I thought was ... interesting Oh, finally, that slave bitch got what she deserved! Someone needs to set Lucius's daughter straight. She's getting on my nerves. Antony's gone crazy! I guess Cleo's pussy is that magical

I was annoyed she got what she wanted for a few years, though. I thought Caesarion was a cute little boy. Cleopatra of history wasn't beautiful by any one's standards. Yet she still managed to shag a couple of the world's most powerful men. So either her pussy really WAS that mind-controlling or... well, she was good with tricking them into drugs. And I despise Livia. And I would allow Octavian to give me a shag like that. This one's for you.

HBO has cancelled two of its three best shows, Rome and Deadwood. The only consolation is that The Sopranos is coming back for a finale in 2 weeks, Entourage returns at the same time, and The Wire (likely its best show) returns in the fall.
And where is Curb Your Enthusiasm? In any event, Livia is given a critical role in this series, which I recommend to ANYONE who loves Rome. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I can't find an official press release, but I can tell you this is the series finale. The reports I've seen indicate that the production costs didn't justify continuing on for HBO. HBO, to its credit, really puts a lot of effort into making their historical set pieces as accurate as they can. The production values of miniseries like Elizabeth I and shows like Deadwood and Rome exceed that of most movies, IMHO. I think it's great that they invest in such vivid historical depictions, but I can understand that sometimes the ratings don't justify the continued investment. I think it's a mistake; they continued to invest in shows like The Wire to allow the audiences to catch up to the show, but they can't film Rome in Baltimore. I heard the production costs for season one neared 100 million, and even for the BBC and HBO combined, that's a lot of jack. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Like The Wire, it needed to be cultivated, especially without it being a network show with mass exposure. Then again, The Wire succeeded on its merits, almost in spite of HBO, IMHO. The problem is that HBO cannot afford to make bad marketing decisions with a show as costly as Rome. They probably thought the show would sell itself. And, to a lot of folk, it did, just not well enough. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
