Do you have an accent?

I was just thinking about how a lot of people have an accent, but don't know it. Some people know they have one, and can even slip in and out of it easily. My question is, doesn't everyone have an accent of some kind? Even the people who speak the flatest, plainest English? That's an accent in and of itself, right? I've been told that people who live in my area (the Pacific NW) don't have an accent. I think they do. I've heard little nuances in people's speech that might count as an accent.

A few people have told me that I don't have one, but I really don't know. People from different parts of the US, as well as China, have said that I speak very plain, unaccented English. A Chinese exchange student said that I was the only English speaking person she could understand. lol A few customers at my old job even said I should go into radio.

What about you? Do you have an accent, or are you unaware that you have one? wink

I'm told I do but not from my region, people tell me I have a north eastern accent which is interesting considering I'm from New Orleans. I also get you don't talk or sound like you're from there.

Isn't it amazing how that happens, picking up anothers accent or speech pattern.

Because I started smoking stogies at the age of 12,
I now have to speak thru an electronic tube attached to a hole in my throat.
So my accent is that of a Cylon.

See, that's what I thought! As soon as you go to another region everyone tells you that you DO have an accent. So, everyone has one!

Everyone tells me no, I don't, but I consider my accent to be the accent that sounds like a lack of accents. You get? lol Good, neither do I.

Basically I have the typical American accent that you'll find on most newscasts, most actors/actresses, etc. etc. etc. neutral

I will totally take on different accents, depending who I'm hanging out with. After a while, I start to sound like them. Isn't it fun?

I speak at the beginning of the second song on my MySpace page. The only problem is that I used my higher pitched "I'm nervous!" voice, rather than my usual speaking voice, which is deeper.

I was REALLY nervous at the time tho. lol
