falloff One thing is for sure, it is "English" we all are claiming to speak and given that it's the Queen that is our Monarch i will tell you this for sure, what i speak is a shit load closer that the bastardised version you do! wink

pat take a deep breath. wink I just thought Red's comments were funny. You're right about American English...and, in addition, you'd be right to guess that most of us don't give a fuck either lol

No, it's true. Accent-free. Very flat, clipped, soul-less speech. My friends used to tell me all the time: "You talk so proper..." omg Like I was a robot or something...

Yes, I do.....people think I'm from Chicago.( No, 90 miles south.)
Unfortunately, my accent indicates a level of "hickness". I've had well educated individuals attempt to correct my accent and speech to no avail. I've actually been at dinner parties where my speech is corrected. (English professor types)
My only mistake was not challenging them on their math skills. Yeah, try calculating mcg/kg/minute in 20 seconds.....along with solution concentration.
Don't let anyone treat you badly because of how you speak.

Welsh accent here wave - think of a cross between Anthony Hopkins (according to Natisse), Richard Burton (I wish) and Shakin' Stevens. lol

I don't sound very typical of where I come from, though - it's a lot stronger where I grew up. And then there's the North Wales accent, Valleys accent (where I'm from), Cardiff accent, Swansea accent, etc., etc., so a 'Welsh' accent depends on where you come from, really. nod

Hey love! hug

Thanks very much. smile I dunno, it used to be something I was very embarrassed about. The Welsh accent - with total respect to any other Welsh Orgers out there - can sometimes not come across as the most flattering. confused Whenever you see a Welsh person on tv they always look like a right idiot. lol Well, sometimes. It can be embarrassing. It's not the accent itself that I dislike - not at all - more the portrayal of it. And it's not as if the Welsh don't have the piss taken out of them as it is anyway but hey... talk to the hand

Plus, growing up, other people used to accuse me of trying to talk 'posh'. confused Hardly. lol I wouldn't class it as 'received pronounciation', would you?? lol It was just that my mother always made a point of pointing out certain things or correcting mistakes. It just becomes natural after a while.

Then, of course, there's the 'gay' thing. It doesn't bother me now but - growing up - I was almost terrfified someone would ask me something sometimes. Or that I'd have to speak aloud in public. Because the inflection in my voice would always 'give the game away' or I was used to being ridiculed because of something I'd say. So it was always a big thing for me - I absolutely hated the sound of my own voice with a passion.

Anyway... thanks for the compliment. lol I know how to make a mountain out of a molehill, eh?? nuts But that's just to let you know how much I appreciate both your's and Carrie's comments. nod It does mean a lot.

Thank you. hug

I guess I have the Massachusetts or "Masshole" accent. I don't pronounce my "r's" most of the time. I try to be aware of it so I don't sound like a retahd, oops, but when I'm mad the accent comes out wicked bad.

I can't hate on the Welsh accent at all! It's so sing-song. hug

I was born & raised in California, and I have been told (especially when I lived in London) that I do possess the California accent. Lots of "ohmygods!" but I try to stay away from "like." One thing Californians do is run their double t's together when they talk - so "little" becomes "liddle," "sitting" becomes "sidding" and so forth. Our speech isn't very proper, plus it tends to be fast and sort of muddled together.

I am guilty of it all, yes! I also can have wild intonation in my speech - it fluxes up and down.
