The teachings of Lao Tzu present the core of Taoist philosophy and provide practical guidelines for a natural, harmonious life. Hua-Ching Ni's translation and elucidation help make this cherished work spiritually relevant to modern readers who are seeking to apply its truth in their daily lives. The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them. -- Mark Twain.

Miles: The Autobiography
by Miles Davis with Quincy Troupe Dex, check out 365 Tao by Deng Ming Dao, a daily meditation book...I keep it in my office and read from it every day, without fail.... "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

Still reading Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller. Not really feelin' it--I generally like "ex-pats in Paris between the wars" kind of books, but this one is too surreal (as in Surrealist), I think. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I'm still reading the same book from the last time one of these threads, At The Highest Levels. The First Iraq War looms as Shevardnadze warns of dictatorship. As the UN Security Council meets, Soviet troops take the Lithuanian radio tower.
Can't wait to see how it ends!
