I though you would come back and tell me I'm a warrior princess Well I don't do this with every number I come across but sometimes I will see a number or a sequence of numbers and will totally notice something about it and instantly recognize that it makes sense and when I do, I start in with the math. I have never studied numerology but the dart board and the days/date thing make me wonder what someone who does would see or derive from that. Interesting that you ask about my waking up at certain times. I am one of those types who sets their clock ahead and then sets the alarm to wake up earlier than I really have to so that I can reset the alarm for another hour of sleep. This makes me feel like I'm sleeping in and waking up less traumatic than getting up the first instance my alarm goes off. Almost every time I wake up just seconds before the alarm goes off again. This happens during afternoon naps too. Also, nearly every day I will look at the clock when it is 3:17. It's not that I time it, but I am always noticing the time at that exact time. Like my internal clock is set to always notice it. I have probably walked through the gateway several times . i sorta do this, but not quite to the obsessive extent you do. i have to add the numbers up and somehow make it even in my head. it always has to end on an even number. for example if i add a number sequence (like a phone number) together that ends up in 39, i add the 3 + 9 to make 12. but i don't add the 1 + 2 because that equals 3, and three isn't an even number. i have to leave it at 12. or i'll add the digits in people's license plates just to see what i come up with, or to make them match. like if someone's license plate is 483 129, i have to somehow add the two sets of digits together (within themselves) til i can satisfactorily (to me) make the two sides equal eachother. and if the license plate (or whatever i'm looking at) is letters and numbers i'll assign each letter a number so i can still do this. usually it's just a number that the letter resembles. like "l" is "1", "A" is "4", etc. if the letter doesn't resemble any number at all (like "m") then i sometimes (if i'm bored) count out the alphabet so i can assign a number. oh, and if there is something with a pattern, like say a china hutch that has three doors on bottom and two on top, i have to somehow account for that extra door so the top and bottom equal eachother, by adding in a shelf or something like that. all this is done silently and in my head so no one has known about it..... till now. omg, i'm a freak. OK, don't even get me started on counting out the alphabet to figure out what number that letter represents! I totally do that too Oh but I do love Scrabble [Edited 2/23/07 16:06pm] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740 | |

When I was about 8 or so, I used to memorize the decimal equivalents of fractions for fun. Most probably know about 1/3 = 0.3333... etc., but what got me was the 7s. Basically, the sequence of numbers is the same for each decimal equivalent of a proper fraction. All that needs to be done is the decimal needs to be moved. Here is the pattern. 142857142857... The smallest number is 1. Thus, for the fraction 1/7, the decimal equivalent starts there. 1/7 = 0.142857142857... The next smallest number in the pattern is 2. Thus, for the fraction 2/7, the decimal equivalent starts there. 2/7 = 0.285714285714... The next smallest number in the pattern is 4. Thus, for the fraction 3/7, the decimal equivalent starts there. 3/7 = 0.428571428571... This continues for the remaining proper fractions. 4/7 = 0.571428571428... 5/7 = 0.714285714285... 6/7 = 0.857142857142... When I was 8, this was a huge epiphany for me. The 13ths are even cooler. There are 2 separate chains of 6 digits each:
Pattern A: 076923076923... Pattern B: 153846153846... The same concept of selecting the smallest number in the patterns applies for these, but in some cases, digits are repeated. In that case, the one with the smaller following digit is chosen. 0 is the smallest number in both patterns, so... 1/13 = 0.076923076923... which corresponds to pattern A 1 is the next smallest number, so... 2/13 = 0.153846153846... which corresponds to pattern B 2 is the next smallest number, so... 3/13 = 0.230769230769... A 3 is the next smallest number, but it appears twice! In pattern A, 3 is followed by 0. In pattern B, 3 is followed by 8. So, we go for the smaller one. Thus... 4/13 = 0.307692307692... A In this fashion, 5/13 = 0.384615384615... B 6/13 = 0.461538461538... B 7/13 = 0.538461538461... B 8/13 = 0.615384615384... B 9/13 = 0.692307692307... A 10/13 = 0.769230769230... A 11/13 = 0.846153846153... B 12/13 = 0.923076923076... A If you line up the specific patterns sequentially that the decimal equivalents fall into, the resulting sequence, you get: A B A A B B B B A A B A This is symmetric! And just for Supa, if you consider how many times a pattern occurs in a row, it looks like: 1 1 2 4 2 1 1 Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! The 13ths got me into delving into further decimal explorations. Interestingly, for some prime denominators (like 7), there is only one chain. For others (like 13), there are more than 1. This is because 7 is a full reptend prime whereas 13 is not. I became very interested in this and explored decimal equivalents and the patterns they fall into up until a denominator of like 61. It's fun to do that kind of stuff...I have never written it down before, but I do junk like that all the time. This year (can't remember what it was) I determined that one of my friends' birthdays and mine were exactly a certain amount of days apart, which equated to something else and something else and ended up right to the two numbers of our birthdays again, and the next time that would work we'll probably be dead.
