Organizations Sending Requests For Money Donations Through The Mail...

are starting to really tick me off, big time. pissed The biggest offenders are the animal organizations and the churches. Now don't get me wrong, I love animals and I go to church regularly, but these people act like I've got money to blow. I feel like saying, "Uhh, excuse me, I just quit my job 3 weeks ago. I don't have any money to give you, so you can stop sending me this stuff!" One animal organization even had the nerve to stamp on the envelope "Second Request". Like I OWE it to them to send them money. Gimme a break! Of course this stuff is going to go directly into the trash, but it's really starting to get on my last nerve! I've never sent any organization money, but I think they get my name and address from the cat magazine that I get in the mail regularly. I really wish these companies wouldn't sell your information to other companies, but they do. I'm not sure if there's a way to stop it.

Does anybody else get this crap in the mail all the time?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

nod I hear ya, I've given money to homeless people on the street before too. I agree, that's a bit different than these organizations soliciting for money donations through the mail. smile

Me too, because it can seem like a legit need, but ya just never know.

One time, my mom and I were in a parking lot, and a lady came up to us, asking us for $20.00. She gave us a story about needing to catch a bus back home. My mom gave her the money, but again, who knows if it was for the bus or not? You just never know.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

donation letters are part of most organizations' development plan along with grants, events and community relations. i wouldn't doubt that they bought a mailing list that's based on a subscription, since it relates to their cause.

don't feel bad for not being able to donate right now - the return rate for these mailings is less than 5%, typically.

There is something called the Nix registry here, you sign up for it for your home phone and home address and voila! it's illegal for organisations to approach you for donations or to telemarket... woot! I did that! biggrin

lol fair enough, but nonprofits here play a different role than in Europe. they take on a lot of services that are provided by the government there.
