hey Miguel, you gotta see these pictures! It shows how downtown San Jose looked in 1975,and it has recent pictures so you can compare.Truly amazing!! What a difference three decades makes, huh?

I went crazy when I saw this! Brings back memories of my childhood.

Thanks to all that responded. I still marvel at the fact that I've met so many of you. And we're everywhere. It's so amazing to me.

I wanted to thank SOULALIVE sooooo very very much. You don't understand. I've been looking for pix of San Jose during that era. There are books out about San Jose that have beautiful pix but they are all from the early 1900's. These pix are from when I was 9 years old.

The pictures of UNDERGROUND RECORDS, THE PUSSYCAT THEATER, THE DEANZA HOTEL. Oh my God. Memories!!!!! At Underground is where I first bought a lot of my KISS records. The Pussycat Theater was this porno theater. I remember passing by it all the time and there would be all these hookers. Male and Female. I later got to befriend some (no I was never a hooker). I used to get my hair cut at a barbershop in the DEANZA HOTEL. It was weird because the barber shop was the only thing that was open, the hotel was abandoned.

Wow, I can't wait to show my dad.

M

Yeah,I remember downtown San Jose in the 70s.I remember going to a big Bicentennial Celebration in the summer of '76.I think it was at the Convention Center? Those pics brought back sooooo many memories!! I remember Charlie's Liquors on East Santa Street lol They tore it down in the late 90s and built the new City Hall there.

so,what were you doing hanging out by the Pussycat Theatre? whistling lol

Why do those pics make me sad? sad

I grew up in Santa Clara.

I know what you mean. Those pics made me sad too.Makes me long for the carefree 70s.I'll never forget that time.

interestingly,The Pussycat Theatre is now a nightclub. In 2004,it was a nightclub owned by Sheila E's father! Our very own Prince appeared there after one of his Musicology concerts.I wonder if he knew it used to be a porno theatre? LOL

I really like the new theaters in Eastridge.

Maybe you're a few years older than me,cause I don't remember Liberty House...what kind of store was it? It was eventually replaced by The Emporium. And yes,I saw the sculpture across the street from Hotel DeAnza.
