lovemachine said: If you are talking about actual boots to hike in you need to get to the store and try on as many pairs as you can. Everyone's foot is different and what is right for others may not be right for you. There is nothing worse then being out on a long hike with aching feet.

dude... i live in the frozen north
and i bought columbia hikers last year so they aren't heavily insulated for winter but i love love love them! they have kept my feet warm enough. somthing kind of like these they are just enough when bombing around town and the traction is wonderful... and not showing any signs of wear after almost a constant year of use (i couldn't give them up after winter was over so wore them spring and fall too) and i think i got them for about $50 because i live in the frozen north i have serious boots like these but they are a little overkill for going to the grocery store lol

Anx said: those are HARDCORE but what about my columbia's damn it! lol i had car trouble once and learned the hard way that when it's -30 outside your boots in the trunk of the car are also -30. from now on i always carry those little chemical handwarmer packets so i can thaw the boots before i stick my little toesies inside.

Something not too ugly, either. No blinking lights. No Nike swooshes. Support your answers. Consider frugality. Be concise. Thank you. I copped a pair of Timberlands similar to these... ...just prior to the Minnie Invasion. Didn't want my dawgs to freeze. Mine had a velcro straping system (for ankle support I guess). Fashionable yet functional. Additional benefit: They also look like they'd work well for ass-kicking your favorite Orger. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I have a pair of Monrail low top boots for hunting/hiking from Summit Hut. Depends on the terraine as far as material the boot is made from. We're in cactus country so leather is a good protection.
I've even worn Doc Marten boots which are good for short hikes. Not all boots are completely waterproof, and you can get waterproof socks and thermal socks for that type of weather. If you buy a pair from Cabela's you can send them back if the fit isn't right. I absolutely must try on hiking boots in a store. [Edited 2/7/07 18:19pm]
