Roger Sanchez, D.J. Z - Trip, D J Shadow, and Cut Chemist are all great live D.J's, but I prefer live bands 8 times out of 10! Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Both, but it also depends on the DJ. There is one that I would never step foot into a club if I knew he was DJing | |

Although I wouldn't say most the music I see live is actually danceable. More like jumping up and down or nodding and banging your head, if that counts. Now I sound old. Oh, but I did dance at the last Mpls. Invasion. It was all Prince though. I am with you... Back when I was a youngin' I used to go to clubs and dance the entire night non-stop. Now I prefer going to see live bands. I really have a hard time, (unless the DJ is spinning old-school funk and soul or something which is really hard to come by where I am anyway) feeling comfortable trying to dance like I used to. I've gone out a couple of times with friends in the past year to go out "dancing" and they always drag me out on the floor and I feel ridiculous. Not because I can't dance, but because I just don't want to. It's the most horrible feeling trying to force yourself to dance along w/ your friends just because everyone else is doing it. And if you hate the music, it's even worse. I actually feel like a fraud or something when I pretend that I like the music and really want to be out there. I actually get sort of pukey if I find myself out there dancing to something like 50 Cent. (this happened to me this past summer.) So now, I refuse to even entertain the notion of dancing unless my body absolutely tells me I should. I compare it with the feeling I get on the rare occasion that I go to church these days. I never go anymore (unless it's to see my mom sing in the choir) so I feel like a fraud taking communion because it doesn't mean anything to me anymore. So I don't. I feel much better about myself and feel like I'm being true to myself, instead of being herded along with the others just out of habit. But that's a different forum I guess.
