Recommend a good winter/hiking boot. ...preferably something warm and with good traction, suitable for walking city streets or climbing volcanos.
Something not too ugly, either. No blinking lights. No Nike swooshes. Support your answers. Consider frugality. Be concise. Thank you.

It's hard to find a boot that is good for both city streets and mountains, but this one looks pretty close:
http://www.sierratradingp...r-Men.html a more affordable option ... http://www.sierratradingp...r-Men.html better for streets and easy hiking... http://www.sierratradingp...r-Men.html I always buy stuff like this from Sierra Trading Post. Great prices and good customer service (if they have your size in stock). It's kind of weird buying boots on line, but they will accepts returns. Full disclosure, I have never worn any of these boots, but the brands are solid. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

I actually need winter boots. I don't own any. We've had a mild few winters the last few years so it hasn't affected me much, but this year I really, really wish I'd bought a pair of boots. My toes get too cold! |

My toes hurt every sinlge day on my way to work. If they hurt, that's the first step towards frostbite. Its not good. Meanwhile, now I'm looking at these... |

If you are talking about actual boots to hike in you need to get to the store and try on as many pairs as you can. Everyone's foot is different and what is right for others may not be right for you. There is nothing worse then being out on a long hike with aching feet.
