is that supposed to bother me? peeing on my bed is kinda like writing graffiti on the wall at CBGBs. only difference is, my bed hasn't been closed down yet (though there IS talk of moving it to las vegas).

I really have to see Volver very soon.

I didn't see that many movies last year. Of the ones I remember that were really good:

The Queen
Babel
Shut Up And Sing
The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D
QuinceaƱera
Superman Returns
Little Children
American Hardcore

And then there was this one that I actually saw twice:

Drawing Restraint 9 confuse

hey! we have some titles in common clapping
Shut up and sing was pretty good, huh biggrin
And Little Children - quirky and unconventional enough for me!

I missed American Hardcore sad

POSSIBLE SPOILER:

'Little Children' would have been perfect except that I had a problem with the skateboarding scene near the end. It seemed totally out of character for that guy and made him unlikebale for me.

Both 'American Hardcore' and 'Shut Up And Sing' were back-up movies because 'The Queen' was sold out twice. giggle I'm glad I saw them though.

SnakePeel

Here's my faves of the year (in no particular order, except for "Shortbus," which was, hands down, the best film I saw all year)

Shortbus
The Proposition
The Prestige
Borat
Casino Royale
Shut Up and Sing
The Science of Sleep
The Fountain
The Departed
Who Killed The Electric Car?
Babel

You mean because he stood her up and just hung out with the skateboarders? That felt totally in character for me. lol I was really annoyed by Little Children when I left the theater because I thought it was going to be an anti-suburban, anti-grown up kind of movie and it let me down (they fall back into family values). But then I kept thinking about it and realized the whole thing was pretty fucked up because of the whole sexual pervert and his relationship with his mother, so that kind of undercut the good parent, family values ending. But then it really is about parental selfishness on all kinds of levels, wasn't it? Whether that meant abandoning kids or smothering/abusing them (like the pervert's mother)... So I was annoyed by the moralistic tone of the ending, and yet the whole thing was so weird that it left some space for doubt whether it was being moralistic or not... I couldn't tell if that was intentional or the script was just a bit muddled. Either way, I found it intriguing enough to include because I like movies that are indefinite.

MORE SPOILERS

I felt if you're going--nay, RUNNING--to a life-altering rendezvous, you don't STOP TO SKATEBOARD. I mean, I know Brad was fascinated by the skaters and watched them practice for days earlier in the movie, but I thought that was because he wanted to experience the excitement of his youth, something he already later achieved by single-handedly winning the football game for Larry's team. Maybe you could say that it was in character in that Brad was and always will be a flaky loser, but he was likable before that scene. Afterward he wasn't. mad

I loved The Prestige, V for Vendetta, and several others I rented through Blockbuster online. I'm not sure which were released in 2006.

But I thought it was really driving the point home that everyone in the film, even the adults, were still little children inside. He was already spacing out on his wife and child and playing two-face with the "neighborhood watch" thing, lying etc. So I didn't think it was that great a leap to cut his fantasy short for another fantasy. It was pretty shocking that he would space out to that extent but it just confirmed that he was a bit of a spacecase during the whole movie, not really living in reality. Remember when the Kate Winslet character says, "It isn't weird, it's real..." while they're in the middle of the football field at night. What a surreal scene. That's what I kind of like about the movie, it definitely wasn't a "feel good". I found it more irritating that when he "came to" after the skateboard scene, that he suddenly felt a responsibility to go home again -- lame-o Brad!

I actually like to just make a list of all movies I watched in 2006 old or new. But everyone else does it by new releases, so I made one of those lists too. shrug

My gripe is Brad already experienced his other fantasy on the football field--he won the game! What the hell does he still need to skateboard for? If his team had LOST the game then I totally would have understood him stopping to skate. As for going back to his wife at the end, that actually made sense to me. I mean, she's the one who has the resources to take care of him and pay his hospital bills. The accident apparently knocked some sense into him.

I think part of it was that like a child when he was really hurt, he naturally asked for his mommy--who in this situation was his wife.
