Did you see the A&E thing on Warhol? I'm not big on the word "genius", but if I were I would put him in that category. nod

i've seen many a warhol documentary - and MANY MANY a warhol superstar documentary (the jackie curtis one was AMAZING) - but i haven't seen this most recent A&E doc. i wonder if it's netflixable now. hmmm

While I admire Warhol's intentions, I don't know why anyone would actually sit through Empire. confused

Well, one reason was that I was the projectionist. Another was that it was kind of a fun scene with people bringing pillows and blankets and stretching out on the floor of the gallery. And third, I wanted to experience the movie as it was meant to be experienced. It's a beautiful image and it's a meditation. You can see subtle changes, lights in the windows turning on and off, the change of the sky. I think I was there around sundown, so the light did change. I probably caught during the action. lol It also brings up questions of reality vs. art in a very fundamental way -- being that it all takes place in real time and the image is entirely unmediated except for the camera and the projector. Pure cinema. That's what I love about Warhol -- his work asks the most fundamental questions about art in a way that is very pure and straight forward. He is a genius.

nod Still wouldn't sit through it. lol

nod Still, if I must experience his genius by watching several hours of one shot, at least let it be Edie Sedgwick getting boned or something. shrug jerkoff
