I have the opportunity of staying for a few days next spring at the Stanley Hotel in Colorado.

This hotel was featured in the 1980 Kubrick horror film "The Shining", and is notorious for its numerous accounts of alleged paranormal activity - which is precisely why I'm quite interested in staying there! biggrin

Has anyone ever been a guest at the Stanley and, if so, did you experience any ghosts or ghoulies or any general spookiness whatsoever?

YES! This is the place where I want an Org Invasion to be. I had also heard that this hotel was King's inspiration for THE SHINING. I also heard that this hotel is haunted. It was on a really creepy episode of GHOST HUNTERS.

I'm soooo jealous!! You're going to have a great time. You need to stay in the room where all the creepy stuff happened on the Ghost Hunter's episode. I wish I had taped it.

Hmmmm.....Org Invasion.....Spring.....Colorado.....??

actually, was the Stephen King (horrible) tel-movie filmed there? It looks like that one. King should really stay away from the film set... or the screenplay... stick to the novels!

I agree.

I don't even attempt watching any of his made-for-television movies or mini-series anymore.

Estes Park is beautiful.

It is surrounded by Rocky Mountain National Park, and Roosevelt National Forest.

Lots of wildlife. And, if you feel like taking a drive Trail Ridge Road is beautiful (if it is open for traffic)

You might even see one of these.

That would be wonderful!

I want very badly to stay in that room!

Did you see the part in that episode where the Ghost Hunters were in the underground passageway and heard an eerie female voice calling "Helloooo"? Great stuff!

I am crossing my fingers for many creepy incidents to occur when I'm there. smile

I thought it was filmed at the Banff springs hotel, maybe that is an urban legend

It seems we are both in error. I checked and discovered that the exterior shots in the Kubrick film were of the Timberland Hotel in Oregon. The made-for-television version was filmed at the Stanley, and it was at the Stanley Hotel that Stephen King got the inspiration for his novel.

i've stayed at timberline lodge. it's really neat. but i think the shining was filmed inside some other place, or places. hmm

the inside, the maze, even the hotel exterior when they run around it at night, are all from studio sets in England. Same studio where the sets for Empire Strikes Back were constructed as soon as they wrapped up The Shining. Supposedly not a single interior shot was ever filmed in a real hotel. Also the snow was fake, and the temperature of the sets was actually hot because of the incredible amount of light needed to faker sunlight coming in the windows.
