yeah the current administration is eroding civil rights in a frightening way. so much for democracy hey.

excerpt:

EPIC Tuesday announced that it would sue to get the details of national ID card legislation reportedly being drawn up by the Office of Homeland Security. The ID card system would reportedly link driver's license information from around the country to federal databases.

"The potential privacy implications of these proposals are far-reaching," said EPIC Executive Director Marc Rotenberg. "Under well-established open record laws, Gov. [Tom] Ridge has an obligation to the American people to ensure that these decisions are made in the open."

well...im one of the few bleeding liberals that think that a national card *is* a good idear...but, i also feel that the discussion and debate of how this sytem is going to work should be done *with* the public...

This administration is so full of crap that it is near the point of insanity. After September 11th they decided to make all the security people in the airports Federal Employees because they felt that the government could control security better than private industry. Well, let me ask you people out there if you knew this. First of all, as far as airport security goes, there was no breakdown. The highjackers used box cutters, which were totally legal to carry on board at the time along with leathermens and small knives. So why make a big deal about the security at the airport? Because it was the big boys who dropped the ball, the FBI and the CIA. But nobody wants to do anything about them, so let’s lay the blame on the little guys. The people who get paid little and don’t have a union to stand up and fight for them.

If the administration felt that security of the flying public is so important that they had to make them federal employees, why are they planning to contract out the entire FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). Yes, this is the truth, I am a FAA employee and it’s a slap in the face to say it’s more important to have the security people who check your bags be federal employees and not the ones who actually direct the traffic in the sky, inspect the aircraft and maintain the thousands upon thousands of electronic systems that support all the aircraft in the sky. The flying public has no idea that these aircraft follow electronic signals all over the sky and all the way down to the ground for landing. It is the integrity of a few thousand technicians that keeps all these Navigational systems maintained to standards that sound unbelievable when you hear it, 99.999%. It is these systems and not the pilots nor air traffic controllers that allow planes to land in the dark and stormy weather.

But the Bush administration feels that airport security is more important than the men and women who maintain these systems. So why did they sign off on this in the dark behind closed doors? They didn’t want the public to know. I’m a FAA Technician and my union can’t even get information on what’s going on. All they have been told is the entire FAA is being highly considered to be contracted out soon. Also, there is legislation that says that 50% of all federal jobs will be contracted out by 2006. This means Mr Bush is getting ready to line the pockets of a lot of big businesses with federal money. It is a proven fact that when federal jobs get contracted out it cost the public more and employees either loose their jobs or get their pay cut. Not to mention loosing their retirement benefits, because they are starting over with a private company.

Yes, this administration is sending this country on a one-way trip to hell, but this is just my opinion. It’s only numbers when thousands of OTHER people loose their jobs, but it’s heart wrenching when it’s you. And if anyone is wondering, I VOTED FOR SOMEONE ELSE.

Nah, I don't judge people because of their beliefs. It's when peoples actions begin to prove their ignorance is when I get radical. This alone may be a bit narrow, but with all of the other factors surrounding our government (lists too long to discuss), this topic makes complete cryatal clear sense to me.

Peace,
JD
