If there is a store near you where you can go look at and get a feel for different decks...that is what I would do ...

There are so many different types of decks other then traditional tarot decks

The decks that I use the most are non traditional decks

I feel the same way about the Rider-Waite deck. It's not something I choose to use after a couple of unpleasant experiences with it...all the decks I use are simpler and less connected with the symbolism in that deck.

The African Tarot was the first one I ever used, and it's wonderful. Extremely simple artwork and symbolism; fantastic deck for beginners. I still go back to it.
