true. But a lot of these security measures, IMO, are meant to keep us controlled and intimidated. Also, If US policies and actions were less aggressive, we would have a lot less to worry about in terms of security. We do shit that potentially makes us targets.

It doesn't work that way.

i know, actually I think a lot of it is actually to make people more comfortable

"And it seems to me perfectly in the cards that there will be within the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing … a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda, brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods." - Aldous Huxley

he was half right,
it seems that no pharamacological substance is needed,
people just give their freedoms in return for security...

right, I'm not sure I'd liken screening for explosive devices to servitude, but there you go

I agree that manners and politeness are important, and I think in general america has been declining in this regard for a long time. But I don't think all is lost. I still encounter pleasantness much more than nastiness the vast majority of the time.

Are you actually in MPLS---because if so, I noticed from visits there that the people are REALLY polite compared to other regions in the US. I remember
flying into NYC with a pregnant girlfriend- we came from Italy trying to get home to her private physician because of possible pregnancy complications, and the airline caused her to miss her connecting flight. Do you know that the trolls who ran customer service were pretty much like "that's your problem, not ours" and we almost had to spend the night in the airport sleeping on plastic seats until I caused a stink. Mind you, this was right before 9/11, so I doubt I would have been able to pull that complaint thingy now, as we would probably be arrested, but the very fact that our manners have been declining as a whole is the reason why I've expatriated. I want to bring up my children with a kinder sensibilty with less agression...

I believe that if you curb the behaviors that make you a target to begin with, you (we) will have less to worry about. Im not saying that there should'nt be any security measures in place. Im saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of(so-called) cure.

So I lived in Japan for six months, and basically discovered that it's more like a different world than a different country.

I've returned home for College, and it's honestly felt like getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer.

I'd forgotten just how different things are here.

In Japan, people bow and smile to each other, public workers act with class and warmth, teens are well-behaved and modest, and everyone, of all social classes seems to truly appreciate it when a stranger greets them or acts friendly to them.

Back in Canada, what do I get? Dirty, suspicious looks from strangers on the streets, bus drivers who look at you with cynicism when you tell them "Good morning", teenagers trying to be cool by behaving like total morons, and just the general feeling of coldness from people.

Where'd we go wrong? Why are we so damn hostile and aggressive with each other? I just don't get this place anymore.

Try living there three years, it hits you even harder! That's why I am going back next year!

I don't know about the rest of Canada but Toronto stinks. It's not a very friendly city and there are not a lot of hot women here and the ones that are hot are usually taken.

Yet while I've never been there, I'd bet my ears I'd get this WORSE in Japan.

Many black people do quite well there. Japanese women love them because it's the ultimate taboo for them.

My brother and I have some black friends over there who are thriving.

I don't doubt there are black people who are doing well there. And I'd love to visit. But are they socially comfortable? I wouldn't enjoy living in Japan rich, yet some strange object of fetish for some; disgust for others.

Well being a black guy who live in Japan for almost four years, there are black guys that are doing quite well there. Serveral own clothing companies or clubs, and there are a few famous ones (Bobby and Bob Sapp to name a few)

I felt more comfortable there than I do in America, I was never expected to fall under any color streotypes (i.e. I don't listen to rap or speak slang) and overall I was treated better there.

You won't accept less than a hot woman - I hope you are not saying i should settle. That's a sure fire way to be unhappy

Your method does not attract hot women- It has in the past. All my girlfriends were really pretty.

All the hot women are taken anyway- Yes. 8 out 10 usually are.

You don't have a hot woman- The babe is pretty but we are not really a couple anymore.

You don't have a woman- No.

You don't get sacktime- Not right now.

You won't change your method- I don't see any other method that will improve my love life.

So approaching this from a purely superficial angle, a hot woman is supposed to see a guy who admits himself is not hot looks-wise, and without being wowed by his charm, wit, or intelligence owing to the fact he will not make the move, she's expected to approach and set in motion a chain of events that will lead to beautiful sacktime (though sans oral).

I agree it's hard for that to happen because for the most part women don't make the first move.
