We are in day 8 now.( Which means 2 weeks of trash is piling up at the curbs...) I have the misfortune of being a part or the OC's services although I am built on a corner of 3 counties. Its starting to draw loads of flys and I imagine other pests!

Orange County Trash Haulers On Strike




Walkout Affects 17 Cities

More than 1,000 Orange County, California, trash haulers from Local 396 went on strike early Monday, shutting down trash service to 350,000 households and 24,000 businesses in 17 cities and unincorporated areas.

Teamsters Local 396 called on residents to accept a 50-cent per month/per home surcharge to ensure that the workers are treated fairly. The union is also asking the county to change its bidding process to include raises, said Danny Bruno, Local 396 Secretary-Treasurer.

Bruno said dock workers will honor the strike, as well.

Picket lines will be established at all county landfills and at the four companies affected by the strike, including CR&R in Stanton, Rainbow Disposal in Huntington Beach, Taormina Industries Inc. in Anaheim, and Waste Management in Orange and Santa Ana.

The strike will affect cities of Anaheim, Brea, Cypress, FountainValley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, La Habra, Los Alamitos, and Orange, and unincorporated areas of Orange County, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.
