I have always loved wearing black. It's my favorite color. But over the past year my best friend thinks that I am going through some kind of rebellion because of wearing black lipstick and black nail polish, etc. She thinks that a woman of my age (late 30's) and in my profession (instructor to adolescents and adults) shouldn't dress in black as much as I do even though I don't wear black everyday (but I have a lot of black in my wardrobe).

I don't feel like I'm rebelling against anything or anyone but she won't let up. She even wonders if I am in mourning (No), going goth (No), or losing my belief in God (NO!). What's the big deal? Does wearing black have to mean rebellion?

When I wear the lipstick, it goes on light and tends to take on a purplish hue. Most people don't even know it's black. As far as the nail polish goes, some of the most professional people have given me some really positive comments to the point that a few of them have gone on to try it themselves.

Why care what she thinks, good friend or not? Even if you were rebelling something, what business is it of hers? Unless there's something offensive or inappropriate about your appearance, the only person your wardrobe should matter to is you. You like black, you wear it to your heart's content.

It's always good every once in a while to take a look @ your style & see if you're stuck in a rut. So you've looked @ it - if you're still happy w/ it that's cool. But variety never killed anyone

I saw an article in Glamour magazine that said black or near black lips and nails are THE style for Autumn. I like it on some people.

I'm not a fan of black lipstick, I must say, and I'm waiting for the day I see it actually look flattering on someone.
That said, the rest of it pretty much describes my style. Almost my entire wardrobe is black. Black is classic and flattering and always appropriate.

Most of my wardrobe is black and I've tried to incorporate other colors -- some work, some don't. But black is always a basic and comprises most of what I wear. It's a classic that everone looks good in!

If you can look good and stylish, then go for it. But if you look like some of these "goth" kids that go way overboard, then maybe you need to chill.

I started wearing all black in 1988 (I know, I'm a trendsetter). Like someone else said, I just gravitated to it. But back then, people thought I was a witch because nobody else in my small town wore all black. I mean, I didn't crazy makeup or go around talking about curses, but I had very long dark hair, pale skin and wore a lot of black.

In fact, I was working at K Mart when I was 16 in '88, and quit because of all the grown women that were harassing me and talking about me being a witch, which I wasn't, all of the time. Thankfully, my mom went in there and raised heck with the manager when she found out about it.

Nothing wrong with goth either....

It angers me that I look shit in a black leather jacket. But so did Bowie. I suppose blonde hair & black leather are like burgers & custard, great seperate but never together.
