Oh yeah - I did buy a video on VHS last month, off eBay. Only because the movie had never been released on Laserdisc or DVD. It was Joan Crawford's last movie, 'Trog'.

I haven't watched it yet. It's still in the shrink-wrap.

p.s. The toy tv I had, played the Corgi cartridges, not the Fisher Price cartridges. They were a slightly different shape - more rounded...

I just remembered another cartridge I had. It was another Disney cartoon with Mickey, Goofy and Donald Duck called 'Lonesome Ghosts'.

I had a sound one, and I think a Six Million Dollar Man reel, and a Star Trek one.

Anyone have the Michael Jackson Thriller viewmaster?

That's exactly why I still buy them, and will continue to own combo VCR/DVD players 'til they go out of production. Sure, DVD'S have a sharper picture, but is that really necessary?

VHS last longer than DVD'S do. I have often-watched videos from my childhood in the 80's that are still in decent condition. DVD's half the time you buy them they skip the first time you play the damn things!

Also, I hate having to do that delicate feather-light-touch manoevre on the Back button if all I wanted to do was re-watch the last 30 seconds.

DVDs damage a LOT more easily.

it sucks to rent a new release and miss half of several key scenes because the damn thing hangs and skips mad VHS doesn't do that.

That's because who knows through how many hands a rental has passed? The last person could have used it for a coaster before returning it for all you know.

As for the question is a sharper picture really necessary? YES! Especially when nudity is involved. lol

That's why I buy the DVDs of movies I really want. I haven't rented in a LONG time. The only movies that have given me trouble are ones that we got for the kids and they got fingerprints on them which can easily be cleaned up.

well, for whatever reason even the new release DVDs are usually damaged by the time i watch them. rarely, if ever, do i get to watch an entire DVD without a single skip or hang.

once i pointed this out to the guy at Movie Madness when he asked if i wanted the 'damage protection'. i told him that seemed quite ironic to me since every single DVD i'd rented there had been damaged long before i encountered it...
