I live in Oakland now, and everyone here badmouths LA, but I spent 25 years there and have plenty of fond memories.

Hollywood definitely has the most culture, along with Venice.

I spent most of my time in Santa Monica, and I grew up in Malibu

There's three major routes, south mid & north. I've taken the north & mid. The mid is pretty boring as you might expect, but probably the most direct.

I guess Interstate 10 is the southern route. I've never done that one because it's too hot in summer. But it probably passes through the most cities.

Then you can probably meet up with Route 66 in western Texas.

If you've never seen the Grand Canyon I suggest stopping there on your way. Very Brady Bunch, but I doubt you'll be disappointed. And if you do, you can stop in Vegas afterwards.

there are so many theatres in LA, you'll have no problem finding films. research and double check neighborhoods, cause gangs are an issue. Find the name of a well known plastic surgeon, and book a consultation appointment. it's a way to meet girls out there...as in, yeah, Dr. Howard is doing some work on me....they swoon at that kind of stuff. Make sure you have a designer pair of sunglasses.

i highly recommend the Miracle Mile area as a place to live. it's got a good neighborhood feel, is centrally located with easy Hollywood, West Hollywood, Sunset strip and freeway access, and is affordable-ish.
