it's a documentary about a mother and daughter who are shut-ins in a decrepit mansion, circa 1974. it was adapted to the stage this year, and they're about to crucify a brilliant story by making a big-budget motion picture of it with drew barrymore. rolleyes

the original film the most amazing character study ever made. period.

Beautiful Girls is by far my favorite.

I watch Beautiful Girls every year in the winter. I know it takes place in upstate New York, but it was shot here in Minnesota and it just reminds me of home.

highfive

I'm totally with ya--I grew up in Northwestern Iowa in a very small town and the whole thing reminds me of that; from the scenery to the drama b/t couples who used to date in HS to the guys that still live there and drink beer everynight 'cause there's nothing better to do...

"Nothing changes in the valley but the seasons." lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I heard a couple of years later he went over to France, became a gigolo, and was shot resisting arrest.

It's not great porn - we have collectively amassed an enormous porn collection at school in our collective man-lust for lady-flesh. (It exceeds 120GBs I believe) so we're not short of porn, but Pirates is our favourite for its obscenely comic qualities. You can watch it as a hilarious film which deals with things films wouldn't normally deal with - where else would you find such great quotes as:

"Last night I dreamed my cock was a giant tri-masted Spanish galleon."

"Evil doesn't stand a chance against these twin hellfire cannons...Be careful of these cannons, they might go off."

Ep V is the second sequel that arguably surpasses the original as an all-time classic. I've watched it a couple of times recently, and it's as perfect a mix of special effects and quality storytelling as you will ever see.
