my last issue of canadian geographic had an article about how they are only getting 7 cents a pound for red delicious so are uprooting their orchards in favor of grapes Yep. There's a fortune to be made in the wine industry -our local wineries are said to produce some of the best vintage in the world. Orchardists can't make any money anymore because the big grocery stores keep shipping their fruit up from California. It's flavourless crap that ripens without sun on the truck up to Canada, but it's cheap, so people buy it instead. If you're ever in the area I recommend visiting Summerhill Winery.
