Woman Gave Son Pot If He Did His Homework

September 13, 2006

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- A woman admitted to smoking marijuana daily with her 13-year-old son to reward him for completing his homework. Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, pleaded guilty to several charges this week and will be sentenced Nov. 27.

Livelsberger, of Conewago Township, admitted in Adams County court that she had been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11, and that she often gave it to him as a reward.

The boy told police that he was required to do his homework as soon as he got home from school, and then was allowed to smoke marijuana with his mother, according to court documents.

The woman also said she also smoked marijuana with two of her son's friends, ages 17 and 18, police said. The 18-year-old also told investigators he had also bought heroin from Livelsberger.

What's wrong with that?

Yes, pot is illegal. But while it's not harmless it does do less damage to the system than legal drugs like alcohol or nicotine. Even prescription drugs commonly given to children like Ritalin are more damaging to the body than THC is.

Can't say I'd use that approach if I had a kid, but I'd rather see a mom supplyting her kid with a joint or two than giving him a goddamn gun as a reward, like some parents do.

You're Canadian, right?

We seem to have a very different outlook on pot than in the US. It's really no big deal here at all.

Although, I personally can't stand it. wink

you shouldn't give alcohol or nicotine as a reward for doing homework either.

Nevermind the fact the no eleven year old should be smoking anything...

confused

what this woman's done to her son is terrible.

Of all the things to get in a panic about, Mary-Ju-Wanna is pretty low on the Canuck to-do list.

Pot's like anything else. It can be abused but the majority of people who smoke it know enough to be responsible with their use. It's not the big bad scary substance some people imagine it to be, and it's no more a gateway drug than alcohol is. Some people may try smoking pot and then move onto heavier, more dangerous things, but most don't.

i don't have so much of a problem with the hallucinogenic effects of the pot, but i understand it's harder on the lungs then regular cigarettes. (then again, for all i know, that's just Phillip Morris propaganda...)

i would have no problem giving teenagers a small amount of alcohol - i grew up in Germany, so it was never a big deal. shrug

I agree, but I'd never, ever give it to my kid as some kind of reward like this mother did.

Actually, I would be disappointed if he ever did start to smoke it, mainly because it's such a waste of money, imo.

Pot's more a depressant than a hallucinogen. I've only ever once hallucinated after smoking, and that was my own fault because I smoked more than I usually do and was sick at the time. The rest of the time I just get mellow and friendly. smile

As for being harder on the lungs, that's both true and untrue. True in that there's higher tar content than regular cigarettes, but untrue in that your standard homegrown has a vastly smaller percentage of harmful chemicals. And never, ever has equivalents to battery acid and nail polish remover, unlike the Phillip Morris product.

Actually, now that I think of it most people I know grow it themselves so I guess money doesn't even really come into play, unless you take into account rolling paper. lol

Even if you're buying it from someone else it's not going to run you a fortune out here, unless you're just a big ol' pothead with nothing better to do all day. lol

Rollies are cheap anyway. And cute! And sometimes they're flavoured! Who wants grape? stoned
