Chris Rock by a landslide. nod

As for the Richard Pryor comment above, it reminded me of this gem of an interview with him:

I just don't find Chappelle funny, it's like he sees the street and Chris sees the alleyways. Or Dave sees the newspaper print and chris sees the dots that make it up. Or something. I love Chris Rock.

They're both very talented though I think Chappelle is more naturally funny.

And speaking of Richard Pryor....I also love fruit juices and other beverages.

Guess you catch my drift.

Yeah. I didn't find any of Dave's stand-up to be all too funny. He did a show here when he was on tour, and made some jokes about white people which caused them to get up and leave the show. lol

im not wild about dave's stand up. chris is incredibly sharp and witty in his stand-up. dave's just seems forced and tired.

the sesame street bit was funny though. the idea of snuffalupagus as a junkie is funny.

it is very easy, when it comes to sketch Dave kills Chris Rock, but when it comes to standup Dave is damn near horrible, while Chris Rock is probably one of the best stand up comedians ever, he can just kill your insides you laughing so hard. All of his standup specials still come on HBO on a reg, Showtime barely shows that Dave Chappelle because it was really garbage

Dave is more about inside jokes. I know people who just don't get them because they don't know the entertainer he's joking about. When you do, he's hilarious, though.

Chris is more universal, and his material is more substantial, though lately that's been the focus almost more than how funny it is. I never thought he'd become so important when I first saw him on SNL.

They're both good for different reasons. Rock is more in your face, Dave is more of the everyman. I like them both - they can both miss the mark at times, but I tend to find Dave a little more likeable.

Yes. That's what I meant by "in your face"... he's just a bit too aggressive with it all sometimes. It's hard to relate when someone is just basically yelling at you. But I have enjoyed some of his material.

I love them both for very different reasons. First of all they are both disciples of my all time favorite Mr. Richard Pryor, but who isn't? That said, I think they are both genuinely talented stand up comedians who are extremely intelligent and very observant. I think Chris Rock has more accesibility with a more in your face approach that appeals to a cross section of people, but that doesn't take away from the high level of intellect in his comedy. Chappelle on the other hand has more nuances in his humor. To enjoy Chappelle in stand-up one must be well versed on a great deal of obscure references. As stated earlier in the thread if you are versed on the references Chappelle talks about you will get his humor. His jokes are extremely intelligent as well. For What It's Worth has great commentary on AIDS, side splitting jokes about the absurdity of the scientific communities explanation for where it came from. Really perceptive and very funny.

I love them both, call it a draw...lol

I'm a little partial to Dave, 'cause I dig his relaxed delivery, which reminds me of one of my "old school" faves, Franklin Ajaye. It's like they're talking with you not at you, like Chris Rock. I love his brutal honesty, but his constant shouting can get a bit annoying after awhile.

Side Note: I actually enjoyed Chris Rock's brother, Tony, on the Def Jam Comedy Show this week. He was the funniest performer, in my opinion. He's a lot more laid back than Chris.

I'm watching that on youtube right now, and I think it's hilarious. lol As for Chris Rock, I only know him from MTV Awards because their stand-ups don't air in Germany of course.
But I love Chappelle! Have to see Block Party soon.
