The "Learn Icelandic" Thread This thread is most definately inspired by Funkenstein's "Learn Finnish" thread... thanx Funkenstein! Anywho, if y'all wanna learn some phrases or complete sentences in Icelandic, just ask me something and I'll try and come up with a decent translation ... And I'll even throw in how to pronounce certain words, if you ask nicely

Moderator | Magni is from Iceland...that is all I know. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Indeed he is.... In fact I once played in a band with his sister, where she was the lead singer.... She has a great voice btw... kinda like her brother... I noticed on the Supernova thread that you're a big Magni fan.. So imagine if you were talking to Magni, what would you want to say to him? I can come up with the Icelandic translation ..... "Haltu kjafti!" ... The main line in the chorus of this song here (sample) is "Haltu kjafti!" Oh, and the song is called "Haltu kjafti" and is performed by Á móti sól, Magni's old band in Iceland, except this is recorded a few months before he joined the band [Edited 8/24/06 13:55pm]

It may come as a surprise to some of you, but actually Icelandic is very related to the English language, although it's far more similar to Danish, Norwegian and Swedish..... About 7-800 years ago the language spoken by people in England was quite similar to Icelandic.... Here's a news report about K-Fed in Icelandic: http://www.mbl.is/mm/folk...id=1219913 ... see if you can spot any familiar words....
