Any Quick Way To Get Rid of Gnats? Or Fruit Flys or whatever these things are?
I was given this beautiful arrangement of grass a few days ago and the past two days I've had these annoying little fly thingies flying around the house. I just realized that they were coming from the grass! There are these little maggot deals in the bottom of the dirt... gobs of them. I just dumped the grass in the backyard, but do I just have to swat and kill the remaining little fly things or are they going to lay eggs in my house and keep producing and I need to spray/bomb the house with something?

Leaveing a glass of sweet wine out, a glass with a large opening, will attract the little pests into the glass to drown. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

Seriously? If so I am running to Meijer to buy a bottle of wine. Since I don't do wine, can you recommend a sweet, cheap variety? I don't want to spend a lot on the little guys. What do I do? Just open it and leave it sit for a few days until they're gone?

Put 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar, fruit juice or wine in a small bowl of water near infested area to trap and drown adult gnats.

Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon Dawn dish detergent. The gnats will be drawn to this, eat and die.

I don't have an infested area though. I dumped the grass out and there's like... well, you run into them now and again flying about the house but in no particular area. Maybe a bottle of wine in every room?

Straight up vinegar or apple cider? I don't have either, but that's a helluva lot cheaper than buying wine to kill 'em!

Buy a flyswatter from the dollar store, get some Vaseline and smear a good coat of Vaseline on the flyswatter. Go into the room/location and when a gnat gets close to you, swat at the gnat and it will stick to the flyswatter and he won't be able to get away. This also works with a disposable glove, except smear the Vaseline on the glove and grab the gnats as they fly by.
Be careful not to hit any surface because you will get a mess of Vaseline.

I was sitting here thinking, why couldn't I just hit them with a rolled up magazine? Why the Vaseline? Sorry... Thank you for your suggestions! Both of you. I think I am going to try the less expensive way and get the Dawn soap and the vinegar.

Fruit Fly Traps:
To make a funnel trap, pour a little bit of vinegar or cider in an old bottle, roll some paper to make a funnel and tape shut. To make a bowl trap, pour vinegar or cider in a bowl, stretch a bit of plastic wrap over the top, attach with tape or elastic band and make a few small holes in the top with a fork for the flies to get in. stole this from the web... works like a charm. make sure to tape the funnel to the bottle well as the little suckers will try to climb out.

Thank you... Mach's advise is working! I caught a gnat!!! I put the vinegar and dish soap mixture in little ramekins in every room of the house and I just went to the potty and there is a gnat in the liquid! Mick, thank you, as well! I would have used wine, but vinegar and dish soap is much more cost effective when killing gnats! Besides, although I don't usually drink wine I may have accidentally sipped a bit here and there and not had enough to kill the pests! Anyway... hopefully they'll all be gone by morning. I'll probably leave them out for a week or so in case they laid eggs in my house (oh, God), and hatch soon?
