VoicesCarry said: Yeah, it sucks. You could tell from the trailer. People were laughing their ass off at the trailer alone, when it was supposed to evoke fear or dread or something of the sort. And then I saw Shyamamalalmalaldingdong's shallow ass in the trailer and found out he had cast himself in a featured role - the kiss of death for any film director (for him, it really started with Signs). Let's hope this shit bombs like it deserves to, and then maybe he'll be motivated to make a different film instead of the photocopies of his previous films he's perpetrated on us for the past four years or so.
I thought I was the only one who called him "Shamalamadingdong"!! "Sixth Sense" was good but it's always dangerous to elevate an unproven director to such heights after ONE fucking film Saw "Unbreakable", I think the only thing that kept me from popping that dvd was being in complete awe of Sam Jackson's wig Never saw anything of his after that. Saw some clips of "Lady" the other day, looks dumber than shit. The only good thing about it is that two excellent actors (Paul Giamatti & Jeffrey Wright) probably got huge paydays to be in this drivel - THAT makes me smile . [Edited 7/22/06 0:51am]

"You won't see anything else like it this summer, and you'll be really glad about that."
"It's silly. It's just silly, and it's a shame." "Maybe the theme is that you should try to score some of that stuff Shyamalan must be smoking." "A tedious, astonishingly irritating march through scene after scene of quasi-Jungian horse flop." "When it's over you think: 'Really? That was it?' Maybe that's the twist."

And to think that I loved you, once! but it's true! his stories are full of loopholes and dangling subplots and by the time i'm done watching one of his movies, i feel like i sat down for a meal just to have my plate taken away halfway through!

"The Sixth Sense" was great. I didn't know about the ending, and wasn't trying to guess the ending, so it got me and it was a great experience.
"Unbreakable" was sooo slow, but interesting. After watching some of it on cable the other night, I'll probably give this one another chance. I also liked the ending of that one. "Signs" is my favorite film of his. I can't believe how many people loathe this flick. They just cringe about the aliens being hurt by water, but that had nothing to do with the point imho. Loved this film, the only one I bought and we still pull out from time to time. "The Village," though, I hated. For one thing, the ending was ruined for me long before, so it seemed dumb to me from the beginning. I was impressed by Bryce Howard, though. I was looking forward to "Lady in the Water," I wanted it to be really good, but I haven't heard anything good about it. Guess I'll check it out on dvd. And what is SO wrong about him casting himself in his own movie? He's far from the only one to do it. What's the big deal?

'K...just got back from "Lady in the Water." It wasn't great, but it was at least original, and not near as bad as the critics make it out to be. Certainly better than "The Village."

I just got back from it as well. I was ready to leave after that little pen-scribbled exposition shit at the beginning. DUMB DUMB.
The only redeeming thing about it is it made me laugh a few times. I was surprised the M.Night had such a prominent role...he ususally is just on some Steven King shit and makes a cameo or something.

Although I guessed the "surprise ending" right after Bruce Willis got shot, The Sixth Sense is a well made movie. The rest would make ok episodes of the Twilight Zone.

I thought it was ok, nothing special or horrible (just like "Signs" and "Unbreakable" still like that one the best...) and at least it wasn't as tedious and predictable as "The Village" and "The Sixth Sense"...
Did get to see a private screening of workprints for "The Fountain" and "The Prestige" which were quite nice even though not as amazing as I hoped, will see what'll be left in the final cut of them... It's quite a boring movie summer, nothing special or even remotely great out, Fall looks more promising but till now again a slow movie year.... Neversin. (back from a 2 and a half week Hawaiian blast and off to vacation #2 (New Sealand) in 4 hours!) [Edited 7/24/06 14:59pm] O(+>NIИ<+)O

Me too. I'm going to see the movie tomorrow. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Well, I like his movies and especially liked Signs. I liked that at the end of it, you realize that everything happens for a reason.
I want to see Lady...but will wait till I can get it from Netflix. I only pay the outrageous movie theater prices for big major movies that I can't wait to see. (The last movie I saw in theaters was The Goblet of Fire).

The one thing that ruined "Lady" for me was not that he cast himself, I'm fine with that. BUT he cast himself as a writer who dies a martyr and who's words influence a future leader who revolutionizes the world. How arrogant is that?
This flick was his worst, excepting "The Village" which was just plain dumb. But then, my favorite Shalamar film was "Signs" which I loved but so many people detest. So what do I know. I also don't know how you can't like "The Sixth Sense." Brilliant film. I can't believe all the "I guessed the ending" folks. It got me hook, line, and sinker because I wasn't trying to guess the ending. [Edited 7/24/06 19:31pm]

so did i..in fact i have liked all of his films... but i havent the time to see this one... i think folks treat films with the same type of bias they treat prince cds. an in each case, the artist is kinda at fault... M's films are best upon repeated viewings...once you work out whatever expectation and/or frustration over the "surpises". Space for sale...

It's not about guessing, it was staring you right in the face from the beginning, the outcome of his movies are always straight in your face and obvious and not exactly hidden or something... Watch more European movies and leave the Hollywood trite for what it is... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

Neversin. but on the flip side of that argument is a film like Cache which while good was a bit bit bit too too too ambiguous. but like with M, i think the results were intentional...the films are more about the conversation/thoughts thats are held after watching the movie versus your enjoyment during them...and for me, thats why M's films work...they always evoke conversation and an emotional responce... sure, sometimes they werent what you expected...
