FIFA Opens Proceedings Against Italian Player Materazzi Following Conduct in World Cup Final
By VOA Sports 13 July 2006 http://www.voanews.com/en...-voa32.cfm The International Football Federation's disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against Italian player Marco Materazzi for his conduct in Sunday's World Cup final in Berlin. FIFA said it opened the proceedings after statements Wednesday from French star Zinedine Zidane. Zidane was ejected from the second extra time period of Sunday's game for head-butting Materazzi in the chest. Italy won the World Cup for the fourth time by beating France on penalty kicks 5-3. Zidane told a French television interviewer Wednesday that Materazzi had provoked him by insulting the French player's mother and sister repeatedly during the game. Zidane's mother is in the hospital. FIFA has summoned both players to a disciplinary committee hearing July 20 in Zurich, Switzerland.

All. The. Time. That's one of the reasons why I would never root for the Italians. They're sneaky, half-cheating, vain momma's boys that have the nerve to be arrogant too. Zidane said: "I don't want to attack anyone but I want to defend myself. I did something wrong and I was punished for that. I ended up alone in the changing rooms. But I was the one who was provoked and I reacted. It is always the one who reacts who is punished, never the one who provokes and this is not fair,"
My sentiments exactly. . Zidane was a damn fool. The Italian played him and he fell for it, hook, line & sinker. Zidane is like Jordan on the field. No matter what, he CAN'T get thrown out of the game. IMO, he let his boys down. Win the Cup first, THEN whip the Italian's ass afterwards. Anyway, REAL football starts in two weeks - Giants training camp opens July 27th. Yeah, baby!!!!

Whether racist comments were made or not, we still dont know, but racism in sport needs to be stamped out regardless.
For millions of people Zinedine Zidane is a hero, the greatest player of his generation and somebody who started with nothing and made it to the top through sheer talent and hard work. I dont think we are ever going to find out what was really said....but we do know what the lip readers are saying.....however, the jury is still out. Zizou edit [Edited 7/14/06 10:46am]

IMHO... I agree about the exhausting part. I get tired myself just watching them run up and down the field. I orginally typed "rum" instead of "run" by mistake.
