Not to sound silly, but since a dog and a human's stomach can flip, I'm wondering if it can also happen in cats too. That would be a good question to ask my vet next time I take one of my cats to the vet for their booster shots/checkup.
I'll ask my vet tomorrow about this. Thanks. Let us know what you find out; I'll be interested in hearing the answer. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I'd bookmark the link I posted just in case too. They give pretty good directions to the clinic on there and the phone number is included.

In the little bit of research I did, it appears to be pretty rare. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.g...t=Abstract

Yeah, I'd never heard of it and I know a lot about animals. It's a very scary thing. The worst part about an animal getting sick is that they can't tell you what's wrong. You have to go purely on instinct and the knowledge that you have of your animal. That's what's great about these emergency vets. You don't have to sit around waiting for answers or for your regular vet's office to open to get treatment. I've found that timing is everything in situations like these.

What is stomach flipping? I have never heard of that before. You know when a hose folds over on itself and the liquid can't escape and pressure builds up? That's what this is like. The stomach rotates in the body cavity and turns upside down. The esophagus and small intestine pinch and the contents of the stomach can't move. Gas and pressure build up until eventually something gives. Usually the stomach tears. It's some hardcore shit. I never heard of this before but that makes sense. Well, Fang is home and doing well. It's hard to see his little belly all shaved and stapled, but he's doing quite well.
It was such a joy to see him burst through the back room of the vet's to greet us. He was crying a lot, so I could tell that he really missed everyone. The vet said not to change a whole lot. He's fine on the diet he's been on, but he wants us to give small portions throughout the day. Also, he wants us to monitor how much he's drinking and not to allow him to play or run around outside directly following a meal or drinking. He's doing quite well at getting up and down stairs, in and out of cars, things like that. He's losing a TON of hair all of a sudden and I'm guessing that the stress from his illness brought it on. I'm so thankful to have him home and acting like himself again. The final cost came to $1215. Still a lot of money, but not as bad as I was expecting considering emergency surgery and staying the entire weekend. My vet is a miracle worker, and I just hope he knows how much he's done for me and my babies. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I hope that in all of this, that I was able to spread a little bit of knowledge so that maybe someone else doesn't have to go through this, and if they do, that they'll know what to do.

I'm thrilled to hear that he's doing well, all things considered. It was a different kind of cry than I'm used to hearing from him. More of a whimper than whining or roo-ing. Oh, something I forgot to mention and this warmed my heart. The vet tech said that he was the ideal patient and a total sweetie. I bought him this big, deluxe pet bed tonight too. He's gonna love it.
