As some of you know, Im Acquisitions Editor for a mag out in LA. I had just started last month and the deadline was approaching and I needed submissions that i LOVED.

Anyway I was looking for poets and I came across one that I liked not on the org somewhere else. I told this person that I loved it and why i loved it etc. There is a "letter" that I HAVE 2 give to people whose creations I LOVE, not a fan of it but i gotta.

That is what I did and just because this guy's poem was not published in the July issue, he sent me a reallly bad email, telling me that he is "very disappointed" that has lowered my confidence and my self-esteem for this and writing in general.

He basically told me off for supposedly not telling him that I was an acquisitions editor ( I DID), that : PART OF EMAIL "in future you might want to be clearer when you contact a writer, introduce yourself as an acquisitions editor (or something to that effect; i've since deleted the original private message you sent me at AW), and engage them with compliments about and interest in a particular
piece.
i have worked as an editor for a publication, and while we invited many
people to submit "something" because we admired their work, when we
contacted someone complimenting a certain piece and asked them to submit
it, it was with a tacit understanding that we would publish their work.



He went on 2 write that "really just trolling for
submissions." and that i should not contact him again.

Sorrry 2 anyone who might have been misled and thought that getting published was a YES.

Im having SUCH A BAD DAY 2day.
Got a parking ticket, then these emails, a speech from my "brother" about how in never going to get a editing position etc because i have no education and no experience, that i should go back 2 school, that although i written 2 books, they don't mean shi& etc: i feel like SHI&

don't take it to heart. Take a deep breath and remember tomorrow will most likely be a lot better

Put yourself in his shoes, he's just venting and blowing off some steam. Don't take it so personally, sounds like he got his hopes high and turned a blind eye to the details. Some people just like to get all melodramatic and unload on you with their crap.
