Tonight I'm going to a lecture by... ...Jello Biafra.
I was kinda excited about this when I bought the tickets, but now I'd really just rather stay in and play with my cat. His spoken word rants were pretty inspiring and witty back in the day, but I have a fear he's gotten a bit overly bitter, paranoid and "Air America"-ish in his middle-age dotage. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I have second row seats, so maybe if he gets really worked up I'll get some Jello spittle on my shirt. Anyway. Should this go in the Non-Prince Music forum or Politics & Religion? It's really kinda both and neither. And now that I've written that last paragraph, this thread could also go in the Site Discussion forum. I'm glad I'm not a mod anymore.

We have professors and lecturers at our Philosophy department that are just as fucked-up as Jello Biafra.

it's a i will try! i had a roommate in college who went to one of his spoken word rants. there was an autograph session afterwards, and as he approached jello, my prick roommate had the nerve to say "do you want MY autograph?" jello's response: "NEXT!"

Saw his schtick in Austin in '89 (?) and it was the same deal: ridiculously long and divided into two parts. I would describe it this way, even back then:
overly bitter, paranoid and "Air America"-ish
For me, he lost all credibility here: http://www.deadkennedysnews.com/faq.htm

For me, he lost all credibility here: http://www.deadkennedysnews.com/faq.htm he lightened up a bit. of course, i like hearing him speak, so i just zoned out during his more paranoid/idiosynchratic stuff and perked up when he actually had something new to say. i love that he reads from a bunch of folded up handwritten notes with newspaper clippings taped to them. he probably lives in a storage locker these days.
