Da Vinci question: Who'd have made a better Robert Langdon?

OK, the critics are ripping Da Vinci Code to shreds, and part of their complaint has been that Tom Hanks, by all means a great actor, just isn't the cerebral, yet dashing, hero the story requires. That said, who would you have cast?

I honestly can't think of many American actors who fit the bill: Handsome, early 40s, an air of bookish authority, yet vaguely sexy, who isn't carrying too much movie baggage.

I can think of a ton of Brits -- Ralph Fiennes, Clive Owen, David Morrisey, for example. But no Americans, hmmm

Vincent Donofrio... but he's too teddy bearish.
George Clooney... but he's so campy, I couldn't take him seriously in this role
Russell Crowe... but can he play "smart?"

Should have been Andrew Ridgeley. He would have kicked ass in the role.

Vincent Donofrio... NEVA! he should be bannedfromacting for a while.
George Clooney... Too rugged.
Russell Crowe... but can he play "smart?" Can he play smart? Have you seen his movies? He can play ANYTHING...

I stay with Patrick Dempsey. He's got the charm the role needs and has that Ford factor...

AND THE RIGHT BLEEDING AGE!

I'm told he did do a good job in A Beautiful Mind. So maybe he can go on our short list.

He is MADE cute for lots of his roles. Definately sexy, but in the tweed Indiana Jones way.

And he is 40. SO no problem.
