a child in my sons class went home yesterday with a case of the Mumps



i know how its passed on... but, i have no idea how easy it is to get or not get.



off hand, im thinkin.. water fountains cant be good, you KNOW kids in the 5th grade arent to good at handwashing, lunchroom tables

You shouldn't worry too much if your kids were immunized. There's a slight chance they might get it but they wouldn't be as sick as someone who never had their shots.
In NY , MMR shots are required before kids start school, but there are people who sign off on the shots because they're afraid of the side effects. I understand their reasoning, but it puts everyone at risk if they don't get immunized.

the problem is that you are contagious 9 days prior to any symptoms showing, and then like a week afterwards.... its become a rather large problem especially at kansas university right up the street from us.


and, here, if you dont get the shots, you cannot attend school so, i believe everyone has had them

that's not good.

I saw that on the news, it's some new strain that they are trying to modify the vaccine to cover.

I hope he doesn't get them,

not really.... just that IF signs were going to show up, they would likely show up my the beginning of the week next week. then, if they do show up, take them to the doctor right away and they are not allowed back to school for like a week and a half or so

well chances are he won't get it. Tell him to wash his hands and to stay away from people who spray it when they talk

I had mumps in the first grade, and was sick for a whole week. I hope your son doesn't catch it.

did you have the vaccinations ???

Thanks. Back when I was in the first grade (late 60's/early 70's), I don't think a vaccine for mumps even existed yet. If I did have a vaccine, I probably would not have come down with it in the first place.

we didn't have a vaccine back then, my mum deiberately got us infected from the neighbours kids during the holidays to get it over with, same with chicken pox and rubella.
