I have to justify why I should get a bonus have done for the last five years and I havent got one. before that I had one two yrs running.

omg That sucks having to explain to your boss(es) why you deserve a bonus. If they see that you're doing a good job, shouldn't it be automatic? confuse

HATE reviews. disbelief

We have weekly and bi-annual ones here. It's bad enough doing the job, let alone sitting back and navel gazing over your last week's work. I've done the job; I don't want to think about it. lol

I would hate having a weekly review, sounds like you work in a tough environment. Getting a review once a year is bad enough for me.

I'm wondering if anybody hates it as much as I do. It's always nerve-wracking for me, wondering what the boss is going to say. Is he going to say great things and make me feel good, or is he going to be nasty and piss me off? Yeah, I know I probably am a little sensitive about this, but I have had some bosses who were real ass wipes and have said things to me that really made me angry. So angry that I wanted to reach over the desk and choke them (but of course, I didn't, but I sure was tempted). pissed Does anybody else feel this way, or is it just me?

have you considered carrying a can of mace into your next review? hold it loosely in your lap, toss it from hand to hand throughout the review. see how that goes smile

falloff I would probably be taken to the security office and escorted out pronto! lol

If people are honest with themselves, they pretty much already know what is going to be said at review time. If you are doing a good job, you've probably already been told that all year long. If you are a phuck-up, you know that too. It won't come as a surprise.

This is true, but I also think it has a lot to do with the reviewer's personality. I've been blindsided by comments about things that I was doing wrong (which nobody bothered to tell me about). I've had bosses who were easy going and did not seem to fuss much, but I've also had bosses who were control freaks and who liked to nitpick at every little detail. Like I said, I think a lot of it has to do with the reviewer's personality. smile

 Not quite sure what you mean about the "making yourself invaluable comment", but it is good to hear the truth about your performance. Trouble is, it seems that a vast majority of bosses don't seem to know how to give constructive criticism in a diplomatic way.

What I meant is that I work for a mid sized company that I kick ass for. If they let me go they would need to hire at least 2 people to replace me, hence, invaluable.

Sounds like you do an excellent job for your company. If they were to let you go, they would be making a HUGE mistake, especially if they would need more than one person to do your job.

Most of the time, I've gotten along great with my supervisors, and I've almost always tried my best, so I don't think too much about reviews. Other people I've worked with have been deathly afraid of getting their reviews when they really have nothing to fear, however.

That's great that you get along with your supervisors (very important in the grand scheme of things). Guess you could say that I'm one of those who is deathly afraid of being reviewed when there is no reason to be that way. lol I had my review yesterday, and it went fine. My current boss is pretty cool and laid back. smile
