I suffer from hayfever between April and June. I use a chromoglycin asthma spray and tablets called Fexofen, which seem to work fine up to now.

I´m allergic against tree pollen.

Hayfever - never used to, but sprung on me from about age 25.

Amoxil penicillin - just in case there are any doctors in here. smile When I was about 9 or 10, for some reason I'd taken amoxil and came out in a huge red rash. And it was the same day as the local Summer fete. I wasn't missing it for anything so everybody else was there in shorts and t-shirts and I went round in a done-up parka. lol

I'm allergic to dust mites, some cats and dogs (but not all),newsprint, some scents and perfumes(but not all). From March til November I have tree, grass, pollen, and mold allergies so I use Rhinocort and Claritin for those. Plus I use natural cleaning products and try to keep ahead of the dust.

Seriously, stuff like amoxil penicillin and the likes CAUSED my allergies....I used to be on different sorts of penicillin over a long period, and they fucked up my immune system.

There´s even a book by some British guy who lost his wife to antibiotics....but I don´t remember the name, been almost thirteen years now.

eek

I'm glad they managed to figure out what was causing it. I have no idea why I had to take it but I had an immediate reaction, and that was that.

And I've read those horror stories where people have clearly stated they're allergic to penicillin and then given a dose in hospital. disbelief

One of my friends was told she may be allergic to alcohol. confused

My sister is allergic to sulfites which are in a lot of red wines. Once she was so sick from 2 glasses of wine, she was incoherent, couldn't walk, was vomiting. I called 911 but the paramedics thought we were lying about the amount of alcohol she drank. They told us to keep her awake and moving as much as possible.I stayed up with her all night. She's a Physician's Assistant in a Dr's office,so when she went to work a couple days later they sent her for allergy testing and she found out about the sulfites. sad

Damn. eek I'm glad they spotted it. hug

I went for a meal a few years back and one the guests had a nut allergy. But this only came out after we'd actually booked the table. The restaurant couldn't guarantee that none of its' dishes had nuts in them so we went on a wild goose chase trying to track down one that could. Took AGES. Not that that was a problem but - based on that one experience - if that's what nut allergy sufferers have to go through every day, I'm lucky. nod

I suffer from allergies...Im fine as long as I stay in a dust free, pet dander free, pollen and mold free climate controlled area. If thats not possible I take Claritin. One tablet and I'll be fine for 3 or 4 days.

I'm allergic to sulfa drugs (antibiotics) and severely allergic to dust mites. I have to go for allergy shots every week (twice a week if I can) and I'm on 180 milligrams of Allegra every day plus Rhinocort Aqua. I tried Claritin, but my doc says it's not strong enough for me. It doesn't do anything.

Allergies are kicking my butt now. I guess it mostly affects me in the late winter - mid summer. It can result from the switching of weather rainy to warm, dust, pollen, who knows what else. My drug of choice is Benadryl, which knocks me out. Unfortunately I have been taking it off and on for the past couple of months, and I think my body is becoming immune to it. Now I'm looking for something else. Allegra worked well for me a couple of years ago, compared to Claritin, but my medical insurance does not cover it anymore so it would cost $350 out of pocket mad.

I used to use food drops(for my food allergies), but they don't work. It's been proven. I'm way behind on my allergy shots. They definitely help, but I haven't been too awful w/o them. I'm probably still benefitting from my last round of shots, which was probably a year ago.

Anytime someone mentions Nasonex, I think of this cute little bee. Usually I don't like bees (can't stand them), but this little guy is so adorable!

In answer to the original question, I suffer from allergies (seem to get more of them as the years go on). Dust is a major one for me, anytime I change the dust bag on my vacuum cleaner, I sneeze like mad. I'm also allergic to animal dander, and probably a lot of things that grow outside. I usually take Benadryl, but as mentioned above, it knocks me out too.

A doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of allergies (an allergist) would be the best person to go get tested and to get some meds that will help.

Yeah, it's one of the reasons people hate drug companies. They've done studies and it only works for like 20-30% of people. But it still gets pushed on everybody. confused

nod They will perform a "scratch test" to see what you're allergic to...

Allergy skin prick or scratch test

One of the most common methods of allergy testing is the scratch test or skin prick test. The test involves placing a small amount of the suspected allergy-causing substance (allergen) on the skin (usually the forearm, upper arm, or the back), and then scratching or pricking the skin so that the allergen is introduced under the skin surface. The skin is observed closely for signs of a reaction, which usually includes swelling and redness of the site. With this test, several suspected allergens can be tested at the same time, and results are usually obtained within about 20 minutes.

Yes- I have had sinus & septoplasty surgery 2003. Shots helped me the last time I did them several years ago- this time I am going to a different dr and I am not sure if he knows what he is doing. I am going for a 2nd opinion..
