why would an anaconda eat a hippo? do they normally eat large animals or do they stick to rats and birds like other snakes?

it just seems like an animal as large as a hippo would be hard to come by on a regular basis.

For a snake food is hard to come by so they eat whatever crosses their path and they can fit in their mouth.

Pigs, deer, tapir, caimen, and jaguar are all common Anaconda prey. Keep in mind a large Anaconda weighs several hundred pounds. It is the largest predator in South Amercia.

That animal it ate in the video was probably a Tapir or something like that, weighing 150 to 300lbs. That snake would not have needed to eat for more than a year after that meal.

Knowing humans the snake is probably dead now.
