Your joking right??? I don't get it people complain about how dangerous Downtown Indy is... rolleyes But then again when I lived in Chicago I had friends who lived on the southside and went there all the time by myself, even at night, but maybe I am just used to it.

By urban standards, downtown is quite safe. I lived downtown for four years and never had any problems... aside from getting hit once in a drive-by paintball shooting. lol (It was probably a bunch of kids from the suburbs.)

Of course, downtown has no official borders. I consider the northern boundary to be 16th Street, but landlords tend to advertise anything up to 38th Street as being "downtown." What I call the near-northside (16th to 38th) is definitely less safe than south of 16th, but even there, some parts are safer than others. I'd feel okay living anywhere along Meridian Street between 16th and 38th, but I can't say the same about, for example, College Avenue.

Yet you tried to convince me that 31 south was East Street and not Madison rolleyes

Off topic post again...we were not talking about the downtown boundry lines....we were talking about how ludacris it is for someone to say that downtown indy is more dangerous then NYC...

Then again you are the loose nut behind the keyboard so you will post anything.... rolleyes

Which it is and has been since 1999, as I explained. Yes, there are still some maps that show the old 31 route out of downtown (Pennsylvania -> Madison -> East), and they're all wrong. Remember, I moved into an apartment just off East Street a few months after they made the change.

No, it's actually quite relevant. You posted, "I don't get it people complain [sic] about how dangerous Downtown Indy is." To judge whether downtown is dangerous, we first need to decide what downtown is. I wouldn't want to live around, say, 21st and College. People disagree on whether that's "downtown."

No, that's chess, and you're playing checkers. tease

Anyway, since this thread is about NYC and not Indianapolis... while I've never been to NYC myself (I don't think making connections at JFK Airport counts), my brother used to take the train into NYC often when he was working at Yale. He never had any problems, thought that getting around via public transportation was very convenient, and (as many others have mentioned) found that the natives were generally eager to give directions.

We already know what the boundires of downtown are, we don't need to to define them... giggle
