Just Saw A Bald Eagle in My Local Park Today....

I had recently heard that there was a bald eagle at the park very close to here. Then I heard that the eagle had gone away, and it was hoped that it would come back. Well, apparently it did, because when my mom and I went for a walk in the park today, we saw a ranger and a bunch of people standing around with their binoculars, looking into the trees. Someone was nice enough to let my mom and I use their binoculars to take a look, and sure enough, there was the eagle. He was a pretty handsome fella, if I do say so myself. cool There also is a huge nest, so undoubtedly, there will be some babies coming soon. It's nice to see eagles, especially since they were once on the danger of becoming extinct. sad

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

nod It is! Wish I had a telephoto lense camera so I could get a picture of the eagle, he's really beautiful.

I love the fact that they are endangered anymore (they are either off the list or will be soon). Along the bluffs along the Missisippi around St. Paul and the burbs there are 100's of them. The local paper one day took a picture of like 11 of them just standing around.

I was ice fishing a couple of years back and I came out of the ice house and a Bald Eagle was standing like 20 feet away from me eating a fish or something that somebody left behind. It was amazing how big and beautiful he was.

Here is a picture of an Eagle I took at the zoo last year. It's not the best but I thought it was worth sharing.

We have three of them that live near us. Everyday at 12:15 they fly over looking for food. eek Last week, one flew down almost as low as our apartment building,we could see his white head very clearly. I wouldn't let any small pets outside without supervision these days. There seems to be a big increase in the birds of prey everywhere. biggrin

I sometimes see one flying overhead while I'm driving along US Hwy 52 north of Rochester. thumbs up!

Yeah, the Mississippi River valley has a bunch. Drive towards Winona on US Hwy 61 and you'll see some.

They are pretty amazing, aren't they? They are actually quite common here in Florida. My son saw one in a nest last weekend and was awestruck. I miss that childish innocence.

I'm okay with it. Trek was the more intelligent science fiction while Star Wars appeals more to the kid in me. smile

I'm in western NY. Not in the country at all. We have all the birds of prey along with Canada geese, blue herons, and egrets eek near us.There seems to be more wildlife in the cities than in the country these days. I've seen foxes, deer, possums and raccoons in our neighborhood.
