out here in asia there's a young idol whose pic was going all round the internet. she's in a girl group in japan and someone took the pic and put a pro-china and japan relations message on it. It became quite a story, in part as some actually felt it helped ease tensions, and also because it rather inappropriately may have helped ease other tensions.

What I'd like to know is, where are the parents? Firstly, they've obviously no problem with making money off selling books with pictures of their daughter in a bikini and making pop music videos for dirty old men, but now she's being used as a political pawn too? i don't understand this aspect of japanese culture, the whole idol thing. Isn't this called paedophilia in every other country in the world? How is it acceptable there? I can't imagine the outcry if these idol books were made in the UK with British teens and preteens. | |
