Do your dogs do "the scoot"? I've never quite understood why our dogs do this, though I'm usually too busy laughing... But every once in a while they will sit on the floor with their back legs kicked out, and use their front legs to drag them across the floor. My mom said they are trying to break some gland or something, it almost looks like they are trying to scratch their butt. Is this normal for dogs? LOL. My beagle does it quite often.

i thought it was their way of disobeying their owner by wiping their asses on your clean floors after taking a stroll outside???

1) they have anal glands that need to be drained. scooting is one way to achieve this
2) they may have worms | |

I guess it's okay as long as they don't scoot all over the kitchenware and then scoot their way into the washroom and use your toothbrush for a good scooting...

2) they may have worms We bring our beagle to the vet periodically to have her anal glands drained. And give all 3 of our dogs their heartworm pills on schedule. Both the vet and my mom tried to explain to me what to do to the dog when she's having this problem, but I'm always like "Too much information! Dont wanna know that!" LOL. I am NOT sticking my finger up her butt, LOL.

Oh, and you don't have to stick your finger up her butt, you can manipulate it from outside but it stinks to high heaven so you might not wanna do it anyway.

Pinworms
Do at Home, Call the Doc Small white worms that live in the lower bowel and look like very short pieces of white thread. Signs * Your child's bottom may itch at night. * You see tiny white worms around your child's rectum at night while your child is sleeping. * Your little girl tells you her vagina itches, and she has a discharge and some pain or burning when she passes urine. * Your child is fussy and restless when asleep. Do at home Use a flashlight to try to see these tiny worms at night. After your child has gone to sleep for two hours, go into the bedroom, pull down the pajamas, and spread your child's bottom apart with your fingers. The pinworms can be seen around the rectal opening. Check for pinworms two or three nights. Be sure you wash your hands after checking. (OF COURSE! Pinworms can be treated by medicine the doctor orders. If a medicine is prescribed, use it according to the directions. The whole family usually needs treatment. Also, there are other actions you can take: * Put underwear on your child or one-piece pajamas at night so your child cannot scratch his bottom while sleeping. * Cut your child's fingernails short, and bathe your child every day. * Make sure everyone in the house washes their hands after going to the bathroom and especially before eating. * Wash all underwear, bedding and towels in hot water and soap. Dry at high temperature or in the sun to kill any worm eggs. * Wash family pets, as they may carry eggs on their fur. Call the Doctor/Clinic You see the worms. The doctor will prescribe a medicine. In most cases everyone in the household will have to take it. You think your child has worms. The doctor can do some tests to know for sure. Your little girl tells you she has a burning feeling when she passes urine, or her vagina continues to itch despite the medication. You should know When your child has been infected with pinworms, they live in the lower bowel and come out through the rectum at night. When your child scratches that area, the eggs of the worm get under the fingernails and are swallowed if the fingers are put into the mouth. Everyone in the house can have pinworms because the eggs can be spread on a child's hands. Your child can have pinworms more than once. Pinworms are very common in childhood. As many as 25 percent of young children will have them at one time or another. Your child can get pinworms from another child who has them. To prevent pinworms, your child should wash their hands regularly, especially before eating. Do not share towels or underwear. i hope that clears things up for any other orgers in question.
