when you score 81, and the next highest player scores 13--pass the damn ball. might be good for his endorsements, but you damn sure ain't gonna make the playoffs like that. good teams will double and triple team his ass and make the other 4 on the floor beat you (unlikely)

Kobe is a monster...and im speaking in basketball terms. And having played competively for years I can say he is a beast. Yes he ball hogs he has to now that is how the team is built. He scores and the Lakers fate rests on that. When Shaq was there he was young and talented...he didn't know why his offense had to take a backseat to Diesel. Shaq is not the easiest guy to play with despite how he seems or what he says. I think Kobe is a complete assclown...but his skills are this...

he is a scorer. Not a team player....not Jordan...a scorer...a great scorer. Take him for what he is. Personality of a dick but the hoop game of a god. 81 is an incredible feat for anyone. And the fact he could have done it TWICE in one season is even more remarkable.

Damn! Kobe is hated on more than any athlete. Why? No one can give a concrete reason why they don't like Kobe. Now, if you don't like him because you think he's a ball hog or a jack, then cool. 1. He is beyond arrogant. Demanding to be traded so he could be MVP and lead the league in scoring? 3. He is bad for the game of basketball. Sure, he will score his points and showcase the glitz and glamor that plagues the league today. He'll regain his status as Advertising Messiah. He epitomizes the "me first" attitude and makes his teammates worse players. The fact that so many young kids look up to him makes me lament the days of yore when athletes understood that they were a cog in the TEAM wheel. Kobe thinks he re-invented the wheel.

As a Laker fan I was highly pissed off at Kobe for breaking up the Laker team and sending Shaq to Miami. An the fact that he snitched on Shaq to the cops shows that he's a punk and he most definitley lost points with me when he did that.

I also agree with you that too much glitz and glamor is what the NBA is all about nowadays(even though I still think 81 points is incredible), I was watching some show on Spike tv last year on NBA rookies, and J.R. Smith(who plays for the Hornets) said after a game that he was dissapointed at himself because he didn't do anything that got him on SportsCenter. That pissed me off. The game has definitley been cheapend. But I still think that there are still a few guys left who play with passion, and a desire to win, and who don't care about the glitz and fame. One of those players is Kevin Garnett. About a year ago this man got on national television and started crying becasue his team was losing and he wanted to win so bad. (although he has to take some of the blame for that because he should of asked for a trade long ago)

But as the league continues to get younger, the NBA will get weaker and weaker.
