what should one expect ???

I have been there many many times....why? It runs just like a well oiled machine. Very good care.

Since that's where I work and am currently Orging from tonight...

There's a ton of specialists here. A lot of the students are trained through Mayo's College of Medicine (http://www.mayo.edu/). Two local hospitals are directly connected with the Mayo Foundation: Rochester Methodist Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital. Yeah, they're considered to be among the best in healthcare. I haven't been disappointed. Well, they COULD pay me a little better, but....

ok, so help me out here, my doctor today said that she was going to send me there because i have been unable to get answers from any of the doctors around here .... but, if a disease has no cure, what are the reasons to send someone there ??? its not a huge amount of money, but there would be cost involved in travel expenses.... i mean, im a team player in my health care and all, but really, whats the point ?

Many of the specialists have ongoing research studies if there's investigations to do. I get TONS of study consents every day working in medical records. They may not have a cure, but they may have something that would alleviate a condition.

well, one reason the mayo clinic is famous is because it's a place where specialists practice medicine. i think the doctors who treat people at the mayo are pretty highly qualified. the good news about seeing a specialist is that the specialist may know about a form of treatment the rest of the medical world might not know about. i think the mayo is also known for medical research so chances are the people there know about tforms of treatment that might not be widespread, or even FDA approved.

im just not sure how i would go about leaving the kids to get there just to have yet another doctor tell me there is nothing they can do for me... each time i hear that its like having someone knock the wind outta me

well, i surely feel for you. i hope things look up soon. perhaps a reason to go, even when there may be no prospect of treatment right now, is to establish connections with the best and the brightest in this particular field. that way when they have options for you they'll know yo're out there and where to fine you. good luck!

Well, I've never been to the other two. There's a Medical School campus at each one. However, I'm thinking that the Rochester location is probably the best equipped since it's been here for about 100 years and has roughly 5 times the amount of physicians of each of the other two clinics.
