It's gonna be another one of those year's...

I am very fortunate in that I am 35 and until last January, had all the grandparents I started with. My family for the most part all still live in Minnesota. I don't know if the cold winter's "preserve" them or what, but my family all lives to ripe OLD ages in excess of 85 years old.

Anyways... there are a few here that know I have a special affection for my only living grandfather, of whom I was named. He just turned 80 a few weeks ago, but for my entire life has battled severe health issues. The guy has like 20 lives...and I think his ability to dodge bullets has finally caught up to him. He is currently battling colon cancer...and the chemo is kickin' his ass....well yesterday he was rushed to the hospital for excessive fluid losses....and well, he seems to be losing the fight...

It makes me sad to feel that I may bury the only living male role model I ever had this year...to my grandfather...I love you.....

I'm so sorry to hear this. hug Grandparents are very special; your grandfather sounds like an amazing man. I'm sure he appreciates all the love and support you give him.

Take care and my thoughts are with you. pray

hug I know exactly how you feel. I lost both parents and my grandfather by the age of 24. The only parent I have left is my grandmother who's 82.

Love to you, Ken. hug

that's one thing that made the passing of my father easier for me. I was able to spend the last weekend of his life with him. We talked, prayed, I sang for him and we said goodbye. He knew his time was coming and he was happy, so happy to see me.

If I hadn't been able to do that, accepting his passing would have been so much harder for me.

Please go and see, touch and talk to your granddad hug

I'm really sorry to hear this. My brother in law is also suffering from colon cancer and he's also an amazing guy.

I really hope your grandfather pulls through this but from what you say he's lived a very full life and you and must have had a huge affect on those who've met him. If it's time for him to move on, let him do so knowing how much you love him. I hope you can tell him how you feel; it's important for both of you.

Working out the details of a trip in the next few weeks....I don't want to give him the impression that I am coming to say good-bye....it's a bit of a thin line there...

I realized this last night as I was building a model with my oldest son.....I am not ready to say good-bye to my grandpa yet....I mean...I knew this was an eventuality.....but I think it's almost worse knowing at this point.... shit...
