Dom Perignon a real champaign.

There's nothing like opening a collectable bottle of real champaign to cork off the new year.

Have you ever tryed Dom Perignon?

Personally I have had about 5 bottles in my life time. I just started a couple of years back. I have the collection of empties on a shelf.

Another very fine champaign.

Unless that is if I can find a Bottle of Dom Perignon 1998. I have tryed up to the 1996.

I got a bottle of Dom from a promoter back in 2001 and saved it for my college graduation in 2002. I love love love Dom! I think the next milestone, I'll get another bottle....hopefully I'll hustle another free one. He actually gave it to me for my 25th B-day. Hmmmmm. My brain is working right now.

One unique thing about the dom is the diffrences in years. It's a really beautiful thing. What was the year bottle of dom you had?

95 is very good. I really liked 96.

Yes, I was given a very expensive bottle of Dom when a project I managed won an award. I saved it until my ex-husband did his first solo flight.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference between a highly expensive bottle of wine/champagne and a good mid-priced bottle. I certainly wouldn't want to spend that amount of money on a bottle for myself. I think I'd have trouble swallowing if I knew it cost that much.

A friend of mine had his 40th this year and amongst his friends are a lot of wine snobs. We had great fun topping up empty bottles of champagne in the back with sparkling wine and watching them all quoff it back as if there was no tomorrow, looking at the labels and commenting on how fine the champagne was! (It WAS good, but it was £6/bottle sparkling wine from a supermarket and not the £40/bottle champagne they all thought they were drinking. Not one of them noticed the difference). The laugh was definately on them biggrin

There are some Niagara wines (both Canadian and US) that are every bit as good as the French Champagnes. nod They're made from the same Champagne grapes with the same methods. France has a monopoly on the name Champagne but not on the quality.

In name only....the French were smart enough to take care of that when they found that the quality of wine is as good or better from other places, particularly Niagara.Every bit as good and quite a bit easier on the bank account.

I know, I know, but I don't buy the hype. To me it doesn't matter what it's called, it's the end product that counts and even the truly great wine tasters can't tell the difference in most cases. I am not in that class , I just like good wine.

Most good wine tasters can tell the difference between champagnes and sparkling wines of different regions, however an expensive bottle is not necessarily the best.

Different wines appeal to different palates. I'm like you, I don't care what it's called so long as I like it.

It amazes me that people will spend a lot of money on a bottle of wine or champagne with no real knowledge of what they're buying. If I were going to spend over a certain amount, I would want to make sure I got the best vintage and would either ask a vinter or look it up on the internet.

The most expensive bottle I've ever bought was a gift to a wine snob. It was a premier cru and he was impressed. I, on the other hand, would rather have drunk gnats piss - I didn't like the taste at all. He took one look at the label and decided he was going to love it regardless. Now to me that's idiotic.

Damn straight.....a blind tasing is a great way to test your palate and open your eyes to taste not cost/perception

Most Finner Places where you might find Dom you will find Perrier Jouet. I did have it New Years Eve. They have bottles that are priced aroun 30 dollars all the way up to 250+. I say it is worth it. I have tryed the basic brute at about 30ish dollars a bottle and it was very very good. New Years Night I had their champaign that is on the level with the Dom Perignon. Although I liked the taste of the Dom better, it was still a really find and smooth Champaign. Next time I would buy the dom or stick with their 30ish dollar bottles because they are very good too.
