I tried about 2 or 3 (Becuase I love crossword puzzles, but found them taxing), and the next you know, I'm hooked.

I adore these. I'm a math instructor at college and my colleagues and I are doing a mathematical analysis of the game, such as the range of filled squares that guarantee the existence of a solution, the total number of completed Sudoku squares, and the point at which a guaranteed solution must be unique. woot!

Someone gave me a Samurai Sudoku today which is basically 5 Sudoku squares interwoven. drool

Thing is, there's no real skill involved, only time. The easy ones you can do just by going from square to square to see if you can get it quickly and build from there. The hard ones you can write down real small in the corner of each square the possible numbers for that square and deduce them all from there. Good fun though. I can't wait to open my present to find the book of 401 Sudoku puzzles. smile

hmm

I like these a lot. The problem is, once you make a mistake, everything else is based on that mistake, and it's very hard to correct. But I like that it's not based on knowledge, but thinking.

The skill is in how much time it takes to complete it!

lol I know. That was a little stupid to say 'no real skill involved'. What I mean is that there's no doubt you can complete any of them, eventually, if you're methodical. With the easy ones I just go to and fro as I please finding ones I can fill in, but with very hard ones I write in the corner of each square the possible numbers each square could be and then just systematically work it out.

So how long do they think is a good target time to complete one in? My new book starts from easy up to very hard and I've done 3 or 4 of the easy ones in around 5 minutes or so each. The ones at the back of the book look harder than any I've seen before though.
