Even if an ugly person asks you if they're ugly? Or if you're ditching your barber for a new one?

Seriously...I mean it. You should tell people the truth. There are ways to be gentle about it.

1) You're damn fugly

VS

2) You're just not my type

there are different definitions of 'best' when it comes to telling the truth.

yes, theoretically telling the truth is 'best'.

but what about in your job review, when your boss asks you if there's any criticism you'd like to offer to him? do you go ahead and blurt out all the ways in which he fucks up? spout off that list of stuff he should be doing but isn't?

or do you keep your mouth shut and answer 'no.'????

obviously you lie and say 'no' if you want to keep your job.

What if a friend of yours asks you point-blank, "Am I ugly?". And what about the whole barber thing? What would you say there?

If you thought they were ugly then why would you be their friend?

Barber...well...you could just not say anything...it wouldn't be lying.

Can't you just answer the question hypothetically? pissed

What if you run into your barber and he says, "Haven't seen you lately? Where you been?".

lol NO...because it's not realistic. If the person was really, truly your friend, you wouldn't care what he or she looked like because you would see the person inside. It's kind of like how people change the longer you know them...some become more beautiful and some become ugly.

Tell him/her you've been busy working, etc (which you have)...again..not lying.

But what if they ask you if they're physically ugly?

But what about my freshly-shorn locks?

I'd say yes the vast, vast majority of the time. I can think of an instance or 2 where it may not be right to lie, but perhaps best to just keep your mouth shut.

Exactly what I was going to say smile

If you really liked someone would you think they're physically ugly? Speaking for myself, if like someone enough to be friends with them I wouldn't think of them as being ugly. shrug It's just me.
If you got your hair cut and the barber didn't ask...don't say anything...if he does ask...just tell him yes...it was easier or whatever to go to another place.

That being said...

Do you think I'm ugly?

(can you tell the truth? if not, why? and don't try to spare my feelings...I want to see how you handle this.)

Of course not! But that's not the same as someone asking me the question who I truly thought was ugly. In that case, I would lie (but also keep in mind that someone would have to have pretty extreme features for me to think they were physically "ugly" - that's an extreme word).

Spats

You can be friends with people who you think aren't good looking. I have a few female friends who i don't find attractive.

But, isn't there something you could say instead that would allow you to tell the truth AND spare their feelings?
