I already had a digital recorder when I got the MP3 player. So, there was no need. Digital recorders are AWEsome if you have something to record. I used it for college lectures.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Just a little weird question, but I always write away my ripped files on my computer every two months, just so I have back ups.

Isn't this possible with yer I-pod?

Like when you make new playlists, you save them on your computer? So when you lose it, you only have to load the playlists BACK?

I don't have an mp3 player, but I still have this:

It was just about the smallest thing around for portable music and cost me $350! lol

I have no way of getting the music I made (which was recorded on to a minidisc deck) on to the computer with the equipment I have. sad

Eventually the minidiscs will stop working and my music will be lost.

Same here! Which SUCKS cuz my MD Player has LOADS of editing tools that my computer cannot beat, like UPPING the sound of the MD's.

My Sign The Times album, recorded onto disc on long play, includes all the b-sides and extended versions, all sound upped somewhat to give it a bit boosted sound that almost resembles the sound that comes from my recordplayer.

I gave ALL the Revolution albums the same treatment, creating the release Prince should have offered us, adding all b-sides and extended plays, upping the sound AND re-editing the sequnced songs, as the cd album versions of esp Parade is SO fucked up; I hate starting New Position on the wrong beat, or Life Can Be So Nice with a partion of the song before it.

What is 'eventually'? Like, in a few years, like tapes, or like in 30 years?

PS FAUX, very soon I have on loan the MD deck of my friend Angelika. This means I can hook it onto my computer and then I can load my MD's onto my hardrive.

If you have some MD's that are really important, you could send them to me for a while and I can send them back after I made MP3's of them.

How many MD's are we talking about?

Well, I have my player here in Thailand with a few minidiscs of other artists and two minidiscs of my stuff. Those two minidiscs are the only record of my music. My recorder is back home, as is all my music equipment (hi-fi separates, Yamaha sampler, Roland sh-101 synth, keyboards etc.) and I guess I get a little nervous knowing those two little plastic minidiscs so precariously contain the music I hold dear. The minidisc player isn't in the best condition and I just fear for the discs too, because they are all I have. I miss making music too, and still after several years have not bought a midi keyboard and some music software for my computer here. I need to upgrade the RAM first too, which I still haven't done.

Fo', can't you get a stereo line out to line in cable
Hook it from the line out/Headphone jack on the player and into the line in/mic jack on your computer. Your computer should have some program for record settings. Hope it works for you.

Only 2. I'd be a little shy about your hearing my music though. It was all made on a Yamaha SU700 sampler, first with only 4MBs of memory and then later with a still paltry 36MB. The music is thus rather basic - few vocals, very repetitive, very short etc. boxed

I want to do the computer music thing to redo the tracks though, as I think some of the ideas are ok.

Wait, that's so simple I must have done it before and had problems or something, or maybe I really never tried it?? hmmm I'll give it another go. What file type would it record as? I must have a line out/line in cable around here somewhere. Hmmm... I'll have a look.

Nope. I've only got a line out to stereo phono one. I'll have to go and buy one. How would I then record it though? hmmm Would I need to download some software for that?

Yes you would need some sort of capture software, I've got DVD burner w/ Video capture that allows me to record audi as well. It's not the best quality but it works. Also here's a link that may help. http://homerecording.abou...nboard.htm

Was this the Wendy's next to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, at US 30 and SR 49? I had my last meal as a single man there... and not counting the reception dinner, my first meal as a married man.

The one thing I remember about that place... I heard "Lost in Music" by the Stereo MC's for the first time ever there. I've always considered their Connected CD one of the best albums of the 1990s, but I'd never heard "Lost in Music" before. Still, I instantly recognized it as being a Stereo MC's track.

(Okay, I realize the foregoing is really of no interest to anyone, but I just felt like sharing. smile )

In the past year I've jumped the Ipod train. I uploaded some 8,500 songs onto it and I think it's great to have all of that music at my fingertips. So, today I get in my car and go to put on my Ipod. As I look for music, it is all gone.

ALL OF IT!

Wiped out! I frantically searched for the "About" screen, it says that I have 0 songs, but the same amount of memory is still accounted for.

This has happened before in Australia. The songs are still on the Ipod, but I can't access them at all unless it is plugged into a computer. mad I've gotten around it by plugging in my Ipod, changing the preferences to show the hidden files, and uploading all of those files back onto the computer, then putting them all back on my Ipod after I reconfigure it completely. All in all, it takes about 8 hours. Moreover, I had made about 40 year-specific or decade-specific playlists of hundreds of songs each. Reworking it all will be a bitch! mad

So, here is my desperate and pathetic plea for help.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know another way around this? It's incredibly annoying and has happened some 5 times now...

Ian, sweetie, my best friend's boyfriend works at Apple (he does a lot of product testing in their laboratory at Apple) and he worked on the IPod from the beginning. I'll forward this problem to him and see what he says.

Hope you sort it out, Moonbeam...

It's stuff like this which puts me off getting an Ipod; I managed to sell my I-River - after having it for 6 months in a box; I couldn't work out how to use it redface - so it looks like I'm going to have to get an Ipod now.

I never had these problems with my cassette Walkman. confused
